WoW now unplayable
by Bluecross | 01/05/2010 16:54:06![]() After the last big patch, I have experienced constant lockups on my G5 tower Mac. The crashes are frequent, and can happen anyplace in the game, at any time, but most frequently while moving, flying, or going from zone to zone. The symptoms are a sudden freeze, a spinning beach ball, ambient sound continues in the background, but the Mac becomes unresponsive. You have a cursor, but menus don't pull down and the dock doesn't come up. Command-option-escape does not bring up a force quit dialog. Your only option is a hard reboot. I have reported this issue in other threads, as have many other people, but it seems to be falling under the radar of the Devs. But let me put it to you this way: today I tried to fly one of my toons from Dal to Conquest hold. I locked up three times on the way. Three times. Each time I had to reboot, relaunch WoW, and start flying again. I give up. I have done all the standard fixes, flushed my cache, turned off addons, etc. My system was rock stable before the patch. Now I can't play at all. I am giving up on WoW for now. After almost three weeks of frustration, I have decided to take a hiatus from the game. Maybe I'll buy Cata when it comes out, maybe I won't. For what it's worth, here is my information: Model Name: Power Mac G5 Model Identifier: PowerMac7,2 Processor Name: PowerPC 970 (2.2) Processor Speed: 2 GHz Number Of CPUs: 2 L2 Cache (per CPU): 512 KB Memory: 3 GB Bus Speed: 1 GHz Boot ROM Version: 5.1.4f0 Serial Number (system): Hardware UUID: 00000000-0000-1000-8000-000A95BB4B6A ATI Radeon 9800 Pro: Chipset Model: ATY,R350 Type: Display Bus: AGP Slot: SLOT-1 VRAM (Total): 256 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x4e48 Revision ID: 0x0000 ROM Revision: 113-A14402-104 Displays: Apple Cinema Display: Resolution: 1680 x 1050 Depth: 32-Bit Color Core Image: Hardware Accelerated Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Supported Display Connector: Status: No Display Connected System Software Overview: System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a) Kernel Version: Darwin 9.8.0 Boot Volume: Macintosh HD Boot Mode: Normal Computer Name: User Name: Time since boot: 31 minutes I will try logging on once a week. by Radoslawn | 02/05/2010 15:59:53![]() Hello Bluecross,
Have you reset PRAM or removed the trinity completely ? Turning off AddOns doesn't go far enough... With the game closed please: 1. go to your Macintosh HD => Applications => World of Warcraft ƒolder and 2. delete the CACHE ƒolder 3. move WTF and INTERFACE ƒolders to the desktop* *gives you the option to be able to move them back and replace the newly formed ones if you want No matter how simple the ??? seem, we were all nbs at one time. Grab your free Apple mount here !!! (okay I lied, it's a survey) https://www.surveymk.com/s.aspx?sm=dVmRYNrf0LMIrm5nXlEciQ_3d_3d |
