WoW Europe, a clarification please?

Alright I looked at a few other European WoW topics. The moderator in these topics said that it was all groovy for US players to play on the EU realms as long as they bought and paid for a european account. No problems there, I already have a trial set up. Now the thing is that when I tried to purchase a European code for vanilla and BC off the website it said that the service was down and I'd need to buy a retail copy. My question is, does this retail copy have to be a European copy or would a US box work (I'd be purchasing another US box set for use in Europe of course)? If it does indeed have to be a european version of warcraft, how would I go about getting one of these in america?

Sorry, I know it seems odd that I'd want to play on a european server I just can't raid as late as they want me to in America. Noon to five seems a lot more nice than ten pm to three am.

Any boxed game you buy here will be valid only for creating an enUS account.

You might want to consider an Oceanic realm--I work overnights and raid with Aussies, fits my schedule perfectly.
