What are we paying blizzard for?

I'm curious, because I thought i was paying for database service and friendly customer service...

Solar,

I truly am sorry that your character's items are unable to be restored, but unfortunately the items were deleted by the account owner before the character was then deleted along with them. When you originally contacted us concerning the character restoration we restored the character, and as you were offline, sent an e-mail to the registered e-mail address on the account. This is a line from that e-mail:

Please be advised that restored characters are restored to exactly how they were when they were deleted.

Now, looking here the character was deleted four months ago, there is unfortunately a limit to what we can verify and nearly half a year is quite beyond this limit. Please understand that we truly do try and assist whenever possible, and that if we were able to we would gladly offer your items back.

Again, I am sorry that we couldn't be of more help.
