Watching an Account being Hacked

So i'm online when one of my fellow guildies of an equal rank (no quick demotions) Starts logging on and off on all his toons and I'm whispered by another guildy that he has been hacked, sure enough our guild bank has been emptied and I get to watch his toons running from his and our bank to vendors as all of his gear and the guilds is sold off , what could I have done to prevent this? I opened a ticket but I bet when I log back on it still will not have been opened, I cant demote the guy I cant stop all his gear being stolen I cant stop all the guilds gear being stolen or can I, is there a hotline I could have rung in real time to halt this? Are there any tools provided by Blizzard to stop this happening while its happening? if there are I havent been told if there is not why not? how hard would it be to have a direct link to a GM for this purpose, wouldn't a neigbourhood watch programe help to hamper hackers? or would it just get abused by people I dont know maybe you or blizzard could help me on this

Honestly, the best protection against this is insisting anyone that desires guild bank access prove they have an authenticator on their account.

All this can be addressed, including the guildbank.

If you have a way to reach your guildmate -please pass on the following information to them.

-----------------------

If an account has been merged to a Battle.net, or if an email has been changed, or an authenticator added to the account (not the player's own) one of your first stops is going to be Billing. They need to get those sorted out first so the rest of the processes can continue.

Billing and Account Services
Phone Support - 1 (800) 59-BLIZZ (1 (800) 592 5499)
Live Representatives Available 7 days a week, 8am to 8pm Pacific Time
E-mail Support - Billing@Blizzard.com
Players in Australia should call 1-800-041-378
Players in Singapore should call 800-2549-9273
Players in Chile should call 1230-020-5554
Players in Mexico should call 001-888-578-7628
Players in Argentina should call 0800-333-0778
All other international players should call: (949) 955-0283

Now, it's very very important to figure out where the security breach occurred. If they CAN get back in, they WILL be back. That, unfortunately, you can count on.

These two stickies should prove helpful.

You may also want to look into getting an authenticator for your account. It's no substitute for good security habits, but it will help keep them out of your WoW account.

Q u o t e:

Blizzard need to offer authenticators freely, if they can make several million selling a vanity mount, surely they can use that money to deal with this issue.

And the mobie apps are free, or very low cost.

The keyfob is basically at cost - with free shipping in the US.

My argument is if blizzard sent a authenticator key freely to everyone who has subscribed (even if as a reward for long term subscribers), you wont have the number on complaints in the forum as it is.

So you are advocating they be mandatory? You are most welcome to recommend that over in the Suggestion Forum, Castle.

Its a customer service forum, you can forward it on for me :)

No, actually we are restrained from doing that. That is why there is a forum setup so they can hear from you in your own voice :)
