The Violet Eye Scam
by Drysc | 25/05/2007 02:05:01![]() We want to make choices matter, and that can be seen through many facets of the game. With the rings we wanted to offer a way for players to change their choice, as there's more than just the "I screwed up" possibility for wanting to choose a different one. We don't however want the swap to be meaningless, the items should carry some weight and so it shouldn't be an impulsive decision to just swap out gear and play choices. The 75g is enough to make you at least take the swap seriously, but not enough to be prohibitive. |

Well, you don't have to have the instance on farm to get to exalted, and if you're basing your entire respec decision around that one ring then that's your choice. I think it's a little silly, but that's your choice. |

Well the issue is that the quest system doesn't allow for any immediately intuitive way to present the rewards in this case. When you pick a quest that then sets you on a path for that ring choice, and we can easily tell what ring you have, take it from you, and give you the next one. If we were to present it as a single quest with four rewards we have no way to say "turn in any of these four items, and we'll give you the next one" or even just "turn in any of these four items". If you'll notice quest requirements in any quests you've done are all or nothing, there is no "or" option. It's really just a limitation of the quest tech that we have now, which we're constantly improving, but didn't have a solution for this quest. It can sometimes be difficult to come up with clear and intuitive ways to present choices, and that's really the challenge and fun of quest design. Well... and making quests about poop. |
