Like many others, I enjoy watching a story unfold at the hands of some creative mind bent on telling things from their point of view. To that end, I thought it might be fun to start a little something for people to take part in. It is not a progressive tale but an individual challenge if you will.

Participants will need to experience a page of a book and write the story that comes from it, whether the book transports them to a new place, sends them back in time, or reveals some new and shocking truth to them; it is entirely up to the author.

Each person will have one post in which to tell his or her tale so that the next may tell his or hers. Consider this an exercise and nothing more. I enjoy these sorts of things and thought others might as well. I will write the intro setting up the discovery of the book. It is up to you what you do with it from there. Enjoy!

You approach a shack long since abandoned and claimed only by the marsh that surrounds it. The roof lies crooked like a tilted cap upon the frame of the building and bits of sunlight manage to slip through the holes in it. Your feet sink slightly into the loam of the shore leading up to the decrepit building. The door lays open only hanging by a singular hinge seeming to wait for that last push before it falls uselessly to the ground.

As you enter the sound of the damp wood that makes up what is left of the shack floor swallows up your footsteps. You had hoped to find shelter for the night but now are questioning your choice given the sad state of the building you have just entered.

Your eyes are drawn to the only thing within the shack that seems untouched by either the elements of the marsh or time itself; a table with a large iron bound book in the center of it. Your hands seemingly float toward the bindings of their own volition and you are mesmerized by the power it seems to exert over you. A deft flick of your fingers and the binding falls open and the book seems to come alive. The cover flips open and pages begin to fly past like a strong gust of wind has picked them up suddenly and fanned them out before you. At last, the book settles on a page seemingly blank.

You reach toward the page and magic seems to leap toward you like sparks from a fire...
