The quality of the shells, hardware, and cymbals are likely identical; plus, the mounting systems for the toms are the same. I'd suggest getting the second one as well. A crash cymbal and stand of equal quality to that included with the first set would likely be equal to, or less than $100.00.

Save your money for lessons and upgrade down the road. So long as you work out how to tune the drums, the cymbals and heads will be the first pieces you'd want to replace.

Timbal is a drummer? D:

I can't really play set to save my life. I'm more of a percussionist. Before anyone says it, my training didn't come from attacking a Djembe on a California beach. = p

Only four times in the summers before each year in high school.

Neato! As am I. I haven't done anything big in a while, though I do play Timpani with the New Philharmonic of Irving (outside of Dallas).

That's awesome. I've always admired timpanists. I've never had a great ear for tuning them (or at least that's how it was before I gave up the timpani parts after Jr. high). My French grip kinda sucks too. I marched bass my freshman and sophomore years, then snare the last two years in high school. Now I primarily focus on Latin Percussion.

Meh, my dad is forcing me into piano again. I quit 5 years ago ( i was somewhat pretty well actually) because i found it boring.

What do you think Timbal about the drums compared to the piano, im thinking about playing the drums instead.

I would love to be able to play the piano. Not that I'm pushing a particular style or anything, but I'm a sucker for Latin piano. I could listen to Ruben Gonzalez from Buena Vista Social Club for hours on end.

Ah, I've been to a couple of clinics on Latin Percussion, and I really find them interesting. I just have never been great at playing them. I'm still in high school right now. I'm a senior and marching snare. Though, we don't have the best marching band where I go to school. It's a catholic school and only about 40 total in the band, and 9 on the drumline.

A good marching program is always very useful. I came from a quite successful program; but I'd still meet people from weaker programs who had better chops than me, and I was section leader. They'd go on to march corps. while I'd go on to try to throw congas into rock music.

High school drummers mellow?

hehe.

Timbal was the guy in the back of the class getting yelled at for not warming up im sure :)

My junior and senior years I was the one doing the yelling actually. ; )

Q u o t e:

I think its pretty stupid. ( Im at the teenage state where hormones control me at the moment.) My dad keeps reminding me every day that people would give up every thing they had to learn the piano. I know its right but something keeps me thinking that i dont think its right. Damn hormones

Id rather play the drums than the piano imo, but i know i will just give up on it when it gets confusing ( which happened with guitar :P )

A good piano player is more likely to be a more well-rounded musician though. If you can learn piano, you've got music theory, scales, rhythm, and sight-reading in the bag. You could always master piano and give the drums a try after!

I can play YYZ, but only on the guitar. I'm learning it on the bass now too, because it sounds more impressive on the bass

I do remember learning some check patterns from "YYZ" when I took set lessons... that, and the intro to "Take the Time" by Dream Theatre... lol
