I'd suggest getting the second one as well. A crash cymbal and stand of equal quality to that included with the first set would likely be equal to, or less than $100.00. Save your money for lessons and upgrade down the road. So long as you work out how to tune the drums, the cymbals and heads will be the first pieces you'd want to replace. < Mod Squad > Why don't you close your eyes and reinvent me |

I can't really play set to save my life. I'm more of a percussionist. Before anyone says it, my training didn't come from attacking a Djembe on a California beach. = p < Mod Squad > Why don't you close your eyes and reinvent me |

That's awesome. I've always admired timpanists. I've never had a great ear for tuning them (or at least that's how it was before I gave up the timpani parts after Jr. high). My French grip kinda sucks too. I marched bass my freshman and sophomore years, then snare the last two years in high school. Now I primarily focus on Latin Percussion. < Mod Squad > Why don't you close your eyes and reinvent me |

I would love to be able to play the piano. Not that I'm pushing a particular style or anything, but I'm a sucker for Latin piano. I could listen to Ruben Gonzalez from Buena Vista Social Club for hours on end. < Mod Squad > Why don't you close your eyes and reinvent me |

A good marching program is always very useful. I came from a quite successful program; but I'd still meet people from weaker programs who had better chops than me, and I was section leader. They'd go on to march corps. while I'd go on to try to throw congas into rock music. < Mod Squad > Why don't you close your eyes and reinvent me |

My junior and senior years I was the one doing the yelling actually. ; )
A good piano player is more likely to be a more well-rounded musician though. If you can learn piano, you've got music theory, scales, rhythm, and sight-reading in the bag. You could always master piano and give the drums a try after! [ Post edited by Timbal ] < Mod Squad > Why don't you close your eyes and reinvent me |

I do remember learning some check patterns from "YYZ" when I took set lessons... that, and the intro to "Take the Time" by Dream Theatre... lol < Mod Squad > Why don't you close your eyes and reinvent me |
