SET SoundOutputSystem "1"

I'm sorry, but since so many people are having a problem with sound, and this (SET SoundOutputSystem "1" )seems to be the answer Blue always gives, why isn't it just the default option? Clearly, AutoSelect (-1) isn't working like it should be.

Hi Karrek,

SoundOutputSystem 2 is DirectSound I believe. That's the default option so if you choose -1 or 2, it's the same. That gives feature such as DirectSound hardware acceleration, surround sound and a few EAX features assuming the card supports it. Setting it to 1 gives the game the standard stereo sound option with no special features. DirectSound tends to work best but if another program conflicts with it (remember iTunes at one point?) or if your system doesn't end up liking it, you can swap World of Warcraft to use something else.

Q u o t e:
I have a SB Live! 24-bit card installed, and I'm ALWAYS having to add that SET SoundOutputSystem "1" to my file, because the default gives my characters no voice, there's no ambient sound, but I can still hear footsteps and error speech (Not enough mana, etc.).
Check your Creative AudioConsole software and make sure it's set on the right speaker setting. You can try to set it on stereo if you want to try SoundOutputSystem 2. My roommate has one but she's using a 5.1 speaker system. When I installed a 22" monitor on her system, I remember hearing all 5 speakers while logged onto one of my characters to change with her video options. I haven't tried a stereo setting yet.
