Ok so I think others have wrote about this issue, but not for sure where the post went. I'm playing on my imac in raid and several times tonight my screen would freeze, but I could still here vent going and I could still move my mouse around. I could not click on anything inside wow or outside wow. I would let sit but it would never unfreeze, but all the sound worked fine, and I could hear my guildies fine in vent. I could not talk in vent with the push to talk button though, everything was locked up. Sometimes I get the spinning beach ball too especially if I attempt to close wow. The only way I can correct it is use the power button to restart my imac? I remember there being a post with this before, but I dont know where it went to and lots of people were having this problem. Has this been fixed and I dont know about it or is this issue still occuring. I have had it happen in the past in a raid night just maybe once, but tonight it happened to me 5 times. My mac does not freeze ever in anything else I run on it.

Hello Cairath,

Spinning Beach Ball is usually an indication that the computer is stuck trying to figure out something, especially when it's barraged with multiple things happening at the same time. Besides Ventrillo, do you have anything else running in the background while trying to play WoW ?

And if you say you have Safari up, I'm taking away your herbalism ability, you have been spending way too much time with strange herbs, hehe.

Hello Cairath,

Do you get any error reports ? Mac HD => Applications => World of Warcraft => Errors Æ’older.

Also the spinning beach in this instance is caused by the inability to save data, as I'm sure you have already done this, try another reset just to make sure it's not just an odd permissions issue:

1. Select the World of Warcraft folder
2. press Command + i
3. in the World of Warcraft Info box, go to the Sharing & Permissions section
4. click on the lock and unlock it
5. make sure you have Read & Write permissions
6. click on the Burst icon ( cog wheel ) and select Apply to enclosed items**

** If using Mac OS 10.4.11, just click on the Apply to Enclosed items button.

Since freezing can happen because of a number of causes, let's go from the top to bottom, how much memory or RAM do you have and do you shut down your Mac when going to sleep or do you put it to sleep ? Also do you have Time Machine running at any point.

Hello Cairath,

Do me a favor and mail your Apple System Profile report to macsupport@blizzard.com with Attn: Radoslawn in the subject line, and also mention your screen name:

To make an Apple System Profile Report:

- go to Apple menu
- select About This Mac
- click on the More Info... button
- go to File menu
- select Save As...
- make sure to export the file in System Profiler 4.0 (XML) format
- e-mail that report as an attachment

I'm hoping to see if I can find out what's going on with your Mac.

Hello Cairath,

Thanks for the profile report. Are you running Safari when playing WoW ?

Safari has issues with RSS feeds and will disconnect WoW and possibly crash it.

You also have graphics card redraw issues, so do me a favor and run AHT just to eliminate any hardware issue, but let me know about Safari.

1. find your Apple Hardware Test disk (might be included with the Mac OS install disk) that came with your Mac*
2. put in the DVD-rom drive
3. (re)start your Mac while pressing d, until the AHT launches
4. run the Extended test

* For Intel-based Apple computers shipping with Mac OS X v10.5.4 or earlier, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Mac OS X Install Disc 1 and should be included with your computer.
* For Intel-based Apple computers shipping with Mac OS X v10.5.5 or later, Apple Hardware Test is located on the Applications Install Disc 2 and should be included with your computer.

Hello Cairath,

Those errors could also be a syncing issue, with the data on the realm syncing with the data on your Mac. Let's clear a few things out. And from other posts I have seen, do you use the gear score AddOn ?

Let's test this out...

With the game closed please:

1. go to your Macintosh HD => Applications => World of Warcraft Æ’older and
2. delete the CACHE Æ’older
3. move WTF and INTERFACE Æ’olders to the desktop*

*gives you the option to be able to move them back and replace the newly formed ones if you want

- AND -

To flush the DNS cache go into the Terminal (Go > Utilities > Terminal) and type in the following:

For Leopard (10.5) and Snow Leopard (10.6):
dscacheutil -flushcache
- press Return

For Tiger (10.4) and Panther (10.3):
lookupd -flushcache
- press Return

( The system will not give any type of acknowledgment after you run the command. )

Try the game after performing these commands.

Hello Cairath,

Sorry, was out for a few days taking classes. Since the last report we spoke about you had graphic card issues, so at what temperature are you running your Mac when playing WoW ?

EDIT: Do you have your Camera View Distance set to Max ?

Hello Cairath,

I agree with the fact that a bunch of people are having this issue, though most of them are running Mac OS 10.6.3, which seems to be the common thread.

Do me a favor, let's go backwards a bit and get back to basics, try the following please:

Reset PRAM:

(Note: in order for this procedure to work the sound must be working normally and not muted)

1. (re)start the computer
2. right after the initial system chime press Opt+command (Apple)+p+r
3. hold these keys down until you get two more chimes
4. let go of the keys and let the system boot up naturally (do not press any keys)

( If sound is not an option: press the keys stated above right after the (re)start,
and instead of listening for the 2 chimes, the screen will flash white 2 times.)

This is just an short term attempt as I have a feeling these issues stem from a much larger issue in programming. But let's see if we can manage a band-aid for now.

Hello Cairath,

So the PRAM procedure reset the RAM, so I would recommend shutting down the Mac each night in order for the memory to reset before the next time you play WoW. But let me know what happens.
