Question about achievements

I'm as OCD as the next WoW player, so I have no doubt I'll do as many of these as I can. I was wondering, in the screenshots I've seen the achievements have a number listed when you gain the title. Do you accumulate points when you gain achievements to be spent on something later? Similar to how arena and honor work, but for cosmetic stuff?

I know some of the individual achievements are supposed to award stuff like tabbards and pets, but not sure if there is an achievement point vendor or something similar. If not, I'm sure it's something people would like to see :)

Currently the points aren't spendable, they are a numeric value to show how many points an achievement is worth and the total shows how accomplished a character is in this new system.

I'm curious to see how they count old achievments.

Such as?

ZOMFG BORNAKK POSTED!!!

And such as say, downing Onyxia, but without having any loot from her still/never completing the quest where you turn in the head.

OR! Obtaining a certain amount of vanity pets if you've deleted them for space or such. :o

For the vanity pets, you would need to re-obtain the proper number, but there should be plenty of options to get the number to hit the achievement and with the new storage system (New Mount and Vanity Pet Storage ) it shouldn't be hard to complete if you like collecting them.

Currently the way the system works for killing things is not retroactive. So if you want the achievement of downing Onyxia, you will have to grab some friends and head in there. Things could change still, but hey, now there is a reason to head back to Azeroth with some friends right? ;-)

So if I'm still holding Sulfuras... ?

See you in Molten Core for the achievement. ;-)

Another quick question. . .

You (Bornakk) seem to be implying that things will not be applied retroactively (ie: if you've downed Rag once, you'll have to do it again.) How then will "Feats of Strength" be recognized? And if those can be applied retroactively, why not some other achievements?

Some things can be and others can't. I don't have an entire list breakdown of things as we are still working on implementing a lot of achievements and tweaking some here and there. An example of something that will be applied retroactively is exploring zones as you can't rediscover them.
