It's the worst-kept secret in the game.... Dueling isn't allowed in the cities <WINK>. Unless, of course, you're in Ironforge, between the bank and the AH, the center of Alliance trade on every server. If you happen to be there, trying to deal with WoW economy, you have to maneuver through every 12 year old with 2 pieces of PvP gear trying to prove he's 1337; and , of course, since they are hanging out in the City, you have to struggle to get your "WTS" seen in the morass of non-sensical, annoying, and usually offensive blather that continues non-stop like virtual sewage in the trade channel. Why? Because the lowest common denominator of maturity is encouraged to hang out in the middle of WoW's equivalent to real-world Wall Street.
Just in case the developers have been living under a rock, you can easily get around the "no-duel" rule by starting your duel behind the pillar to the right of the bank (if you're facing it, behind the mailbox). For some glitchy reason, standing there allows the game to see you in Dun Morogh, not Ironforge, and the dueling ban is avoided.
Considering the "<chuckle/wink>" I've gotten from the GMs when I've brought this issue up, I am sure that the game designers are well aware of this issue, and have been working diligently to allow it to persist. I can come up with no reason for the charade; if you're okay with dueling in the cities, just lift the ban. Unless, of course, it is somehow connected to the other worst-kept secret in the game - Blizzard is unabashedly pro-Horde, and allows this to go on simply to provide further grief for the other 75% of players who choose to play Alliance.
Either way, please make a change. Either close the loophole or open the cities up to dueling and let chaos reign.
In the meantime, I'll suffer the flood of "Dude, don't be lame" and "QQ" responses this post will undoubtedly provoke. |
