With the release of patch 3.3.5, players may now add Real ID friends. Real ID is a completely voluntary and optional level of identity that keeps players connected across all of Battle.net. When you and a friend mutually agree to become Real ID friends, you'll have access to a number of additional features that will enrich your social gaming experience -- read the Real ID FAQ- http://us.battle.net/realid/faq.html for additional details, and click here ( Patch 3.3.5 Notes ) to view the most recent patch notes.

Hey Deathshelper, you may want to try explaining the issues you're running into on the tech forums. This way we can better track what issues people may be running into when connecting to th erealms.

Q u o t e:

I know you are busy, but I was wondering if you could confirm a few RealID assumptions I have please? I promise they are not evil, mean, or a trap in any way.

Overall I plan on not using the system, I use vent to keep in touch with game pals, and I like to keep gaming and my personal life separate. That is just me, and I appreciate the option that blizzard has given us with Real ID to do so, and not made it mandatory like the battle.net account merging was.

How do I make sure that no one can ever add me as a friend and see any personal info? Do I just never accept an Real ID invites or do I have to go into parental controls and turn it off?

I ask this because there are 1-2 people that may know my email or guilds that you join via their website have access to the email that PMs go to. Can they add my email to their real ID list and then I am automatically joined into the system? Or as long as I never accept any real ID invites, I will never have my alt list or real name known?

and lastly:

Is a Real ID friend request different than say a group invite? I know it is a dumb question, but sometimes I am not paying attention and recognize the name inviting me and click yes. I just want to make sure I stay out of the Real ID system if I choose to do so, and that never can anyone add me without my approval.

Thanks!!!!!

If you don't want anyone to see your name, then don't accept invitations. No one can force add you even if they know your email address. You have to actually accept their invitation.

A Real ID friend request is different than a group invite. You'll be notified should you get a Real ID invite and it will show up in your social pane. Again, you do not need to accept those invitations and can decline them all without any worry. We've worked to make it very clear between Real ID friends and just game friends that you might have already.

I just wanted to pop in briefly to post a couple of quick comments.

First off, we are definitely reading and taking in all of the constructive feedback that is being provided. We may not be incredibly vocal in some cases, but we are keeping close tabs on things.

Second off, some have asked if they could get a "yes" or "no" answer on whether or not we plan to make further changes. As always, this isn't something we can give a simple "yes" or "no" answer to. This is a new feature and we would like to make sure to allow time for people to try out the system and share their experiences and concerns with us in a constructive manner. We did not take the development of this system lightly and will continue to try to answer as many questions as we can. The FAQ has a lot of additional information that I see continue to get asked about and anything beyond that, we can see about trying to answer as well.

The Real ID page and FAQ can be found here- http://us.battle.net/realid/index.html

Not good Blizzard not Good . Ruby Sanctum is not open to N.A. yet ! Whats up with that ? So you threw us a bone that is absolutely useless . Why did you even bother ?

One of our company core values is to think globally. Since we decided to only release the patch in North America to begin with, we wanted to wait on releasing the Ruby Sanctum Raid for when we make it available to the rest of our regions. We'll keep everyone informed of when we "flip the switch" on this encounter so that everyone can get a chance to check it out and experience the new story elements that go with it. We're almost there and while I know you're anxious to get in there and do your worst/best, we felt this was our best possible option.

Q u o t e:
It was mentioned at one point that people would be able to import emails into the REALID system using Facebook. However I can now no longer find any information on this importation feature. Was this taken out during the Beta? If not how would one go about importing using Facebook?

There has been some confusion over the implementation of this feature. We announced the addition of Facebook integration with StarCraft II and as such, it's actually integrated as a part of Battle.net as it is tied in to that game. When StarCraft II goes live, you will have the option to import the friends you select from there as long as they too have a Battle.net account.
