Midsummer Fire Festival Testing
by Kisirani | 21/02/2008 22:36:23![]() The World Event Team has activated the revamped Midsummer Fire Festival on the PTR. The primary focus of the PTR testing is still on the content of the Isle of Quel'Danas, but if you could spare some testing time to review the holiday, we'd greatly appreciate it! You can visit any capital city -- including Shattrath -- to begin most quests involving the holiday. Some focus points for feedback:
We'll also gladly take any other feedback you may have regarding the holiday. Here are the known issues that have been fixed on our end and should be fixed soon on the PTR:
Your friendly neighborhood World Designer. "Mind if I drive?" "Not if you don't mind me clawing at the dash and shrieking like a cheerleader." |
by Kisirani | 21/02/2008 22:55:53![]() Your report was appreciated, Oppositeday. ;) |
by Kisirani | 21/02/2008 23:04:17![]()
Yes. The quest offered by the Earthen Ring Elder, while it initially leads to Ashenvale, eventually leads to a level-appropriate summoning daily quest that will yield blossoms. |
by Kisirani | 21/02/2008 23:30:23![]() The fire proc should also work for casters; please, by all means, test it and let us know. The buff itself is tied to the fire in the wilderness of that area, which the opposite faction can stamp out (and you can relight). Flame Keepers and Flame Wardens are only outside the capitals, I believe. Thank you for the rest of your feedback. :) |

These quests are no longer a part of the Midsummer Fire Festival; it's been revamped. |
by Kisirani | 22/02/2008 01:24:48![]()
...as I said earlier, no, those are not the only real dailies. If you do the Earthen Ring Elder's Ashenvale quests, it will open up another daily quest to kill a summoned lieutenant. There are also other ways to get burning blossoms dealing with the fires in the wilderness. Honor the flames of your friends... and stomp out the flames of your enemies. ;) EDIT: ...no, the Horde mount we hinted at for Brewfest is not in the Midsummer Fire Festival. :P |

Was talking to Grimbold on that last bit; apologies. ;) |
by Kisirani | 22/02/2008 01:36:12![]()
The old rewards, for the most part, are not available at this time. That isn't to say we aren't listening. |
by Kisirani | 22/02/2008 01:39:49![]()
Yes, it's in. Yes, the reward is still the same. Yes, it requires the new city. ;) |
by Kisirani | 22/02/2008 01:51:15![]()
Generally speaking, If you have an Alliance, Horde, or Steamwheedle settlement in the area, that's where you'll find a fire. ;) There may be an exception or two. Some things were indeed shifted around, as befits a revamping of the holiday. |
by Kisirani | 22/02/2008 01:57:49![]()
Let's keep this focused on Midsummer, shall we? :P |
by Kisirani | 22/02/2008 01:59:16![]()
Searing Gorge doesn't have an Alliance, Horde, or Steamwheedle settlement; therefore... ;) |
by Kisirani | 22/02/2008 07:08:33![]() The stealing the other capitals' flames quest is still in with the same reward (the crown). Blossoms are gotten elsewhere, and I'm pretty sure that's where we're keeping it; the blossom amounts have been calculated the way they are for a reason. Kiisa, the issue with the stones should be resolved next push, allowing you to summon them in a bit more quickly. :) And yes, Piestuffing, we're testing it now so we don't have to test it later. We tend to work pretty far in advance with holidays. Thank you all for your continued feedback; we're still reading. EDIT: Also, regarding the shoulders and the wisp pet, we're in discussions about adding them to the vendor for blossom prices, though if this happens, you may have to make a choice between getting the old rewards and the new (or a mixture of both). |

Good catch, thanks. |
by Kisirani | 28/02/2008 09:40:58![]() Hey all. We're still reading the midsummer feedback. Thanks for your continued input. First, if you've noticed, you can now purchase most of the old, discontinued quest rewards for blossoms. We've also hooked it up so that characters who had the quest "A Light in Dark Places" (completed, mind you) in their quest log that were waiting to turn it in can do so. I don't believe we'll be removing the XP from the quests. If anything, many of the buffs and the like from this event further support the gaining of experience. If you wish to remain static at one level, that is your choice, but it is not a choice we necessarily support, and as a result you may miss out on rewards from quests. And just because we're testing midsummer content, it doesn't mean the patch is releasing in the summer. ;) Event content like this is always patched in early and then lies latent until the time is right. |

The small size is actually her intended size. The large firedancer was a result of the scaling issues you saw recently where non-combat pets were gargantuan. So nope, she's staying that size. But you might try dancing with her at some point... ;) Thanks for the feedback, everyone. We're going to have some focused testing on Ahune very soon, here, so get ready to hang out in Slave Pens. |

No. I'm going to put this out here right now -- if you don't manage to finish a holiday quest by the time the holiday ends, it's likely best to abandon it, but understand that the possibility exists it might not be offered again the next year. Now, in the case of Midsummer, we've added a few of the old rewards to the vendor for blossom cost, but that may not always be the case. Additionally, I changed the turn-in NPC for those who have had it completed in their log all this time as a courtesy, but again, this may not always be available. We're not trying to phase out all old content from year to year or anything so drastic, but there may well be discontinued quest rewards every now and again as we add new content and move forward. Just be mindful of it. :) |

Now, when did it say to go to an island, eh? ;) First, did you check to see if Midsummer was running on the PTR? It's been up and down. If Midsummer isn't active, the cultists won't show up, and this isn't really a bug. |
by Kisirani | 07/03/2008 19:11:33![]()
I do believe, my friend, that you need to catch up with the thread. ;) |

My friend, I personally was responsible for many of the quests in the old Midsummer. I'll tell you straight up why the vast majority of the quests then were phased out. First, some relied on level 60 being the cap, which is no longer the case. We could have shifted the fires to 70 areas, but to be honest, the quests at the end of the day just weren't that fun. We're striving to improve the events, and that means sometimes things will end up on the cutting room floor. To be honest, you're not missing much regarding the quests that were removed. ;) The main mechanics of the event are still present and have been improved upon. There are new quests that involve more entertaining mechanics, and the exploration aspect contained within the old quests as well are still present with the honoring and stamping out of the flames all around the world. The reasons behind such phasing out tends to be primarily that the old content is incongruous with the new. The old quests wouldn't have fit with the new ones in Midsummer and weren't really on par with what we sought to do this year. Aside from the initial design of Midsummer which has since been rectified, could you give me examples of this "trend" you claim exists regarding many flair items being phased out? I haven't seen a great amount of it myself. Will some of it happen? Yes it will. There will be times when we feel it's time to move on from a given reward. It's not going to be an incredibly common thing, but it will happen. |
