Low FPS after patch ... A possible solution!
by Rednok | 16/10/2010 18:24:36![]() If you have some reading time while you drink your cup' o java I go over all my testing, if you don't and you just want to see if this is your solution skip to the end! My background: I have 3 computers, two run perfectly fine after the patch, the third one seemed to have issues no matter where I went (Dalaran, flying in the middle of nowhere, etc.). My benchmark: Stand in the middle of Dalaran with 50* of your closest Horde and Alliance buddies around and spin in place. *I didn't count how many people were around. :P Computer A: Steady at 23-27 FPS Laptop A: Steady at 40-47 FPS Computer B: 4 FPS, but in reality I think it was like 4 frames every 10 seconds. Computer B is the most powerful of the three machines, the only one running Windows 7 64 and a GeForce 9800GT. So why was the most powerful machine doing this? My Solution!: I was sure I updated the drivers when Starcraft II came out, but I guess not because the version # changed. After rebooting I got an error message about some software not running. "Who cares, I just want to know if it worked." Started the game, and it runs great! Middle of Dalaran spinning in place at 50+ FPS. But wait there is more, remember, something didn't start up properly. So I rebooted, everything started up fine as no error messages came up, ran the game and... <drum role> FPS from HELL again. WTF? Ok, removed drivers again, rebooted, reinstalled drivers again, rebooted again, error message "Asus gamer OSD failed to load". What is game OSD? This is video capturing software that came with the video card, I have never used it but have never had a problem either. So begins the final solution: Ran the game, no problem. Rebooted AGAIN and ran the game with the software working, problem. Uninstalled software... <drum role> NO PROBLEM. Several reboots later, loading and exiting out of the game: NO PROBLEM! So I suggest you look for this or look to see if you have any type of video capturing software installed. It sucks if you like to make videos but which would you rather, play the game or make videos? Hope this helps some of you. [edit] This was done without addons enabled, but I have tested now with a handful of addons and FPS haven't really changed. [ Post edited by Rednok ] |

It was included in my ASUS Dark Knight 4870 card but I never installed it. [ Post edited by Datth ] Tech Support/Billing All of a sudden....VOID RAY! Pew! https://www.surveymk.com/s/H2S6NPZÂ |
