Login stuck at. . . success?

Issege

when attempting to login to WoW, the status box stays on the connecting portion longer than normal, then it gets stuck at Success! for an indefinite period of time. When I press escape, it brings up the realm type selection boxes. the top box (where you normally choose your region) just has "Development" as a choice and the bottom box (PVP, RP, etc.) is normal.

whats going on?

I can never respect the death knight class. why? a warrior charges into a group of opponents ahead of his teammates. a death knight singles out one opponent from a crowd and brings them into his crowd

Hello Issege,

That's great to hear, though I am wondering what fixed this, if the issue arises again in the future. Did you restart your Mac ?

Hello Burlacher,

If you have been playing the real WoW, some data might have crossed over and confused the PTR, so go to the Mac HD => Users => Shared Æ’older and delete the Blizzard Æ’older. And try launching the PTR and signing in, if that doesn't work try the following please:

1. delete the Cache and WTF folders in the World of Warcraft Public Test game Æ’older
2. clear out any IP connection corruption (do both of the two procedures below)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Flush the DNS cache:

- Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities open Terminal.app)
- type in the following:

For Mac OS 10.5 - 10.6: dscacheutil -flushcache
- press Return

For Mac OS 10.3 - 10.4:lookupd -flushcache
- press Return

( The system will not give any type of acknowledgment after you run the command. )

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Reset PRAM:

(Note: in order for this procedure to work the sound must be working normally and not muted)

1. (re)start the computer
2. right after the initial system chime press Opt+command (Apple)+p+r
3. hold these keys down until you get two more chimes
4. let go of the keys and let the system boot up naturally (do not press any keys)

( If no sound : press the keys stated above right after the (re)start, and instead
of listening for the 2 chimes, the screen will flash white 2 times.)

Now try to connect to the PTR game.

Hello Zantir,

Some of the realms, actually most of them, are still down:

http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/realmstatus/

But let me/us know if you still can't get in after they come back up. Also did you try resetting PRAM since the 9th ?

Hello Zantir,

Resetting PRAM resets the ports on your Mac, including the Ethernet and Wireless ports. But in this case, and since you've already done all the quick fix procedures we need to look further.

And it's great to hear that you haven't had any issues for the last 5 years, but to be honest I haven't had a flat tire in 5 years either, but if I do get one, it's more than likely it was time to replace the tire anyway.

Basically something has changed on your computer, whether it's a corruption or the computer has become worn down by use to the point where it's not the same as it was 5 years ago, or something has stayed the same for the last 5 years finally becoming out of sync with the new versions of the game, whatever it is I'd like to find out what that is, to help you out.

Just a few questions:

- have you installed any software lately, maybe the entire Mac OS ?
- are you still using the same service provider or has that changed lately ?
- are you updating the firmware on your router on a regular basis ?
- are you also updating the Mac OS on a regular basis ?
- if you are using wireless have you changed the location of the router or computer and have any new electronic devices been added to the area

Since login issues don't even amount to 5% of the issues we see on a daily basis, it's hard to say that it's something on our end, unless our realms/servers are down. When we had issues with the maintenance taking longer than expected yesterday we had over 700 tech issue emails within 15 mins or so from people telling us there was an issue. So trust me when I say, if there's an issue with the game or on our servers, we don't have to wait for the IT department to tell us, our players are pretty vocal, which is very cool.

Hello Zantir,

Q u o t e:
The last 2 lines above continue until I pick another server

So can you log into the game on another server ? Please let me know because if you can and this is only effecting one or two specific realms only, it could very well be on our end. It's a very rare occurrence but I do see it maybe once or twice a month from players. Also if other realms are fine, it completely shifts where I was going to go.

Relating to the issue also, higher end toons have much more data that's needed to go back and forth from you system and our system, so if you can get on the other realms, do they have lower or higher level toons than the one you are having issues with ?
