Legal Concerns over RL Guild Items.
by Eirien | 10/09/2008 08:39:36 Hello! I don't really know where to post this but I figure since it's relating more towards legal stuff that I'd post my questions here. My guild is doing a lot of in-game and RP contests. Things like "Best screenshot of X category", "Guild-Related Poetry, Stories, Filks" and so on. We give out prizes in game but we wanted to take a fun step towards rl with it. Basically we'd like to give away illustrations to winners (made by our art team) or even t-shirts with our guild logo on it. The question is, can we do this and how far? For now everything is free and we're fine staying that way but would we be allowed -legally- to send guild mates t-shirts or baseball caps if they pay for shipping fees or basic fees to cover the cost of making/purchasing the mats on the item if say they wanted a t-shirt even if they didn't win? We wouldn't profit from this at all. I know many who would love their guild's logo on a t-shirt. And it would certainly strengthen team spirit. We won't be using any WoW/Blizzard logos. Won't even say "World of Warcraft." Just have our own guild logo that we illustrated on the items. I know some clubs have their own team jerseys (like baseball, bowling, golf, etc) and I know there isn't a problem with that but I've never done or seen anything like this in WoW before. Also, is donating RL money for contest mats even allowable if it is just there to support guild events but not go back to the characters in game? Thank you for your time.
