Latency
by Andrias | 15/05/2010 20:59:12![]() So I am using my campus internet connection that is absolutely awful. It will work sometimes at like 100 latency then when i step foot into a 25 man raid it goes from 15k-25k. Is there anyway I can fix this? I have a hard time understanding it because we can play xbox live games without issues. |
by Radoslawn | 16/05/2010 15:12:59![]() Morning Everyone, To check if it's the internet that causing the latency issue, run a trace route to the realm you are on: 1. log into the game 2. put it in window mode Command + M 3. go to your Macintosh HD=>Applications=>Utilities=>Network Utility.app 4. select the Netstat tab (• Display the state of all current socket connections) 5. click on the Netstat button on the right (wait a bit) 6. find the first foreign address that says battlenet:
7. copy the foreign address in front of the one that has battlenet on it (ie. 206.17.111.7) 8. select the Traceroute tab 9. paste the address into the box/window 10. click on the Trace button on the right 11. copy the data 12. reply to my post and paste that info, please No matter how simple the ??? seem, we were all nbs at one time. That pretty much takes away my super powers to change anything with your network and takes away your ability to be your own connection god. I would ask your IT department at your school to see if there's a limit of data throughput at the school. 25 mans produce the most data going back and forth, since not only does the connection have the standard interaction but now you are adding 24 other people syncing with your computer. That's a lot of running away to keep track of, hehe. Also have you tried playing at different times throughout the day. I know some schools are fine in the daytime, but at night they seem to limit throughput or the other way around. by Radoslawn | 16/05/2010 22:40:15![]() Hello Andrias, If your roommate does 25 man and pretty much the same type of game play that you do, then I would go with that endorsement. With the amount of data that the game uses up is as good as a guess as how fast I can run, it all depends if I'm running or being chased and who is doing the chasing, if my gf, I might have to slow down a bit, unless... It's up for debate since data at higher toon levels is more than lower level toons, then add the discrepancies of if you are grouped and how big is the group, and what you are doing. Less data if you are just having a dance party compared to trying to down Arthas, he's a complex guy and has a ton of stuff going on that have to sync with your mac trying to redraw all that data. I just haven't seen any definitive proof of any ranges to tag here, sorry. But talk to the IT guys, see what they have to say, they might be WoW players themselves and can get you some useful help.
