Lag since march 2nd maintenance

I usually play with no more than 60-70 ms all the time. Since March 2nd when we had that small download after maintenance, i have been getting 200-450 ms. It's been consistently bad day or night. 200 ms might not sound like much to some, but when you're used to virtually NO lag at all.. it makes a huge difference. Sometimes I wont see a spell cast actually happen until after the GCD has refreshed. Anyway I was wondering if there is any issue that you're aware of or if there's anything I can do. Thanks.

Oh I've also tried wiping my cache/WTF/interface folders but it didn't help.

Hello Everyone,

Anytime there's a maintenance the IP addresses of the realms may change so if you have any lag or latency issues, I would go ahead and flush your DNS cache or better yet reset PRAM. Also your old temp files might not sync with the new reset data so I would also recommend deleting the Cache folder (this way you attack both possible culprits at the same time)...

1. delete the Cache folder in the World of Warcraft game folder
2. clear out any IP connection corruption (do both of the two procedures below)

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Flush the DNS cache:

- Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities open Terminal.app)
- type in the following:

For Mac OS 10.5 - 10.6: dscacheutil -flushcache
- press Return

For Mac OS 10.3 - 10.4:lookupd -flushcache
- press Return

( The system will not give any type of acknowledgment after you run the command. )

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Reset PRAM:

(Note: in order for this procedure to work the sound must be working normally and not muted)

1. (re)start the computer
2. right after the initial system chime press Opt+command (Apple)+p+r
3. hold these keys down until you get two more chimes
4. let go of the keys and let the system boot up naturally (do not press any keys)

( If no sound : press the keys stated above right after the (re)start, and instead
of listening for the 2 chimes, the screen will flash white 2 times.)

Now test the game.

Hello Everyone,

For those that are still having latency issues, do me a favor and post your trace route from the Realm you are on:

1. log into the game
2. put it in window mode Command + M
3. go to your Macintosh HD=>Applications=>Utilities=>Network Utility.app
4. select the Netstat tab (• Display the state of all current socket connections)
5. click on the Netstat button on the right (wait a bit)
6. find the first foreign address that says battlenet:

Q u o t e:
Active Internet connections (including servers)
Proto Recv-Q Send-Q Local Address Foreign Address (state)
tcp4 0 0 my-imac.corp.b.xxxxx 206.17.111.7.battlenet ESTABLISHED

7. copy the foreign address in front of the one that has battlenet on it (ie. 206.17.111.7)
8. select the Traceroute tab
9. paste the address into the box/window
10. click on the Trace button on the right
11. copy the data
12. reply to my/our post and paste that info, please

For those who are having lag issues, does anything change if you delete the trinity ? (Cache, WTF and Interface Æ’olders)

The pre-patch data that downloaded the last time, is just a file, it has no bearing on your game, unless it's still checking the files while you are playing. So I would make sure your Downloader Preferences are set yo download after you exit the game and not while you are playing:

- launch the World of Warcraft Launcher.app
- click on the Options button => Downloader Preferences => take out check mark to download while playing, and put a check mark to download after you exit the game.

And let me know if the above helps.

Side Note: I'm off on Fridays and Saturdays, so I wasn't able to post during those days.
