Is extortion allowed?

Seriously, can they do this or is it breaking the TOS?
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=9336500174&sid=1

The first post I mean, not the goofy troll patrol guys. My zuluhed character saw the two alliance lvl 1s that you're supposed to pay and wondered why they were on the Isle.

Would appreciate a post from Blizz on that thread so that all of zuluhed knows if this is allowed or not. -- otherwise there'll be copycats and threats and further extortion (not because we're all bad people, but just because we're all bored right now).

Thanks.

Zuluhed is a PVP realm.

Q u o t e:
So, demanding payment of the opposite faction to NOT PvP them is allowed?

Sure.

So, if I were to go onto my other account, and get a group of people together, and gank anyone who doesn't pay me, I could do this without fear of consequences?

It's up to the player the lengths they wish to go to in order to avoid getting ganked.

Do you know how profitable this is? If anyone has the guts to get a guild together that could moniter the beach and kill off anyone "Not on the list" could ruin economies. Think about it - Horde are making thousands of gold a day and Alliance will have to pay an amount close to what they are earning in dailies. The horde economy will become bloated and there will be less money on the alliance side, as a whole.

Every player has to spend money at the NPCs (Repair, items, tomes, Flying Mounts) and that money all has to come from somewhere - and that somewhere is dailies. If all of a sudden you exclude the main source of income the economy wil be spending more than it is gaining, throwing things out of balance. Alliance will have dirt cheap items on the AH in a desperate attempt to gain some money themselves to get alts twinked or mounted, and themselves their own novelty in-game items. On the other hand, the horde side will continue making as much money as it did before, and more. They will be taking in as much or more as before, meaning AH prices will skyrocket and you will see more Horde with Flying Mounts and the like, while under 70 Horde will struggle to supply themselves with anything from the AH, seeing as they're income has not changed while the rest of the realms income has.

People will start buying things off the alliance AH and bringing them to the horde side through the Neutral AH. People will not only see a lack of money, but a lack of items on the alliance AH as well.

If you wanted to take things to the extreme, you could say by endorsing this you are endorsing poverty, as there has to be some in Free Market Economies, you could be setting the gap as whether you're horde or not. This could cause a recession in most realms if news gets out (and something that could make this much money for the greedy pvpers, who are usually on a pvp realm, most certainly will.

This is some serious hyperbole!

PVP's gonna happen on PVP realm IQD no matter what. If someone wants to pay to avoid it, they're pretty silly, but it's not against any policies.

It's not the end of the economy. Eat some Siberian ginseng, man.

If this economy doesn't exist, then why do some people spend American currecy and exchange it into WoW currency via Ebay?

A combination of laziness and disposable income.

The Mafia nearly completely control all of some contries. Being able to tell someone that if they pay you a certain amount of money once every little while, nothing bad will happen, is so profitable. In "Real Life" (Whatever that is) the mafia was succesful due to it taking profits from everyone and eliminating all the people that wouldn't pay from being able to contribute to the economy. This is exactly what this group is trying to do.

There are other ways of making money, but most of those involve using the AH. Almost all of them do. And if the bulk of players have less money, then things will sell for less. As for one guild controlling all of Azeroth, that's as the party talbuk would say, "A hyperbole." You only need to send a few people during peak hours to IQD, Kazzak, and I think there might be one more quest hub but that might be all.

Nobody says that they have to pay. And nobody says that they have to lose.

There's no cross-faction communication, though.

A Horde player is saying to send gold to an Alliance player. That's it.

In real life:

"Give me money or I'll kill you."

In World of Warcraft:

"Give me money or I may possibly kill you given our equal level and the proximity of your friends and allies, whereupon you may resurrect yourself."

Let me pose an honest question, Boots, because I really think you're being purposely obtuse to mess with me.

You really think a small group of Horde players could successfully disrupt all Alliance daily questing via "extortion" unpursued by Alliance players long enough to have any sort of measurable impact on the virtual economy?

Q u o t e:

Whilst I understand that the realm in question is PvP, and whilst I respect the right of players of any faction to organise groups, and thus "take control" of an area/NPC or quest objective for a period of time, having read this, I have a simple question...

Whilst the actions of engaging in PvP combat by the instigators of this - in itself is not against any rule that I am aware of, surely the demand for gold in leiu of free access should be considered an exploitation of the economy, and thus completely against the Terms of Service?

I apologize if I haven't been clear enough.

No one is forcing anyone to pay anything.

PVP will happen on IQD regardless of whether protection payment is requested.

There is no guarantee that the Alliance players will pay, nor that they will lose should PVP occur.

Bottom line: This is a PVP realm, there is a PVP solution.

Let's say that there is a server with a EXTREMELY low amount of alliance and a staggering number of horde, To the point where the horde outnumber alliance at any given point 4-1, What happens then? When there is no " PVP solution?

The action discussed here is fine.

If one of these hypothetical doomsday scenarios actually occurs, you're more than welcome to yell at me for ruining the economy.
