Internet Disconnect

Gwendolyn

Other people are having my (almost) same problem. It's grown to the point of almost unplayable so I decided to make my own post. I will attach my system specs after the problem description.

Typically this occurs on screen load in a location where many other people are present (returning from an arena match or bg back into Shatt, zoning in to a 25 man instance, etc).

My video and sound will begin to stutter. A "stop-and-go" effect that affects my wow video and any sound playing at the time.

A small percentage of the time my system eventually recovers, the stutter stops, and the game is playable again. (Occasionally even with this scenrio my sound becomes "corrupted" with nothing but static that requires a reboot to fix).

The majority of the time when my system catches up, I find that I've been disconnected from wow. I can run around in game but can't cast spells, camp, etc. A hard kill of wow is required. When I return to desktop, I find that it's not just wow but my entire internet connection has been dropped. Only a reboot (or as I learned in a tip from another poster, going into sleep mode / rewake) will fix the problem.

To date I have tried the following fixes without success:

1. Disable all mods.
2. Deleted the cache folder and moved WTF and Interface out
3. Reset the vram
4. Set all graphics slider to minimum
5. set maxfps = 30
6. Set the pixelshader variables listed elsewhere
7. Turned off the firewall to my macbook pro
8. Tried connecting both wired and wireless
9. Purchased a new router (DLink -> Timecapsule)

I'm at wit's end. My last resort is to reconnect my windows desktop pc but I really dont want to do that.

Here is my technical info:

Hello Gwendolyn ( and everyone else in this lengthy post ),

Since a few things have already been mentioned as well as many unsuccessful fixes, lets take this by the step-by-step method...

1. always use wired connection, if you can ( wireless can be affected by any medium to high EMF radiation )
( try playing World of Warcraft, while having a microwave in-between you and your wireless router, now reheat something - connection gone )
2. lets get a clean internet connection...

Power-Cycling Procedure:
1. turn off your modem and router (if using one) - pull the power cords
2. wait 30 seconds
3. turn on your modem - put the power cord back in
4. wait 1 minute
5. turn on the router (if using one) - put the power cord back in
6. wait 1 minute
7. (re)start the computer ( sleep can be tricky since you want at least 10 secs before you wake the computer - think grumpy computer after a nap )

After the computer starts up please delete the CACHE folder and move your WTF and INTERFACE folders out of your World of Warcraft directory. The default location is in Applications. Moving them to the desktop makes it easy to replace them if necessary. Now, try out the game.

Let us know, if you get disconnected, what you were doing, where you were and what happened to the program - errors, crash, hardware crash, etc.

A few side notes:
- Static IP address is okay you just have to make sure you have the DNS servers listed.
- routers cycle IP addresses, go into your router and make sure it's not cycling every few minutes
