Instalation taking 3+ hours/6GB out of 4GB?

Ikillikill

I started downloading the client onto my mac at a family members house. It stoped at about 10% as I took it home and restarted it. The download bar is stuck at 33% but there is a shadowed bar that is almost completed (but has been like that for an hour or more). It is still downloading files but im very confused because it also says (increasingly) 6GB out of 4GB. My question is: Is it still downloading properly? and If not what can I do to fix it? If it is downloading properly then at what GB can I expect it to end at?

Thank you much!

Matt

Hello Ikillikill,

Did you choose the Lich King installer ? The downloader has a drop down menu and you can choose which version of the game you want to download, by default it chooses WotLK, which will install all 3 versions of the game and you will have a lot less patching to do as a result.

Also if you are using a router, you might want to check to make sure it's set up to work with our servers to make sure the download is fast, if not the hardware firewall will make the download take 400% longer to download...

Firewalls can be found in routers and DSL modems.

For routers you can go to http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/routerindex.htm
- select your specific router
- select World of Warcraft Downloader
- follow the walk-through instructions

For DSL modems, change the Private IP setting to a Public IP setting (look at bottom of modem for sticker with instructions)

Hello Squattinbull,

Just wanted to thank you for the post, very thorough and greatly appreciated, especially by me.

With the #3 step, hopes this sheds some light for people reading this thread...

Power-Cycling Procedure:
1. turn off your modem and router (if using one) - pull the power cords
2. wait 30 seconds
3. turn on your modem - put the power cord back in
4. wait 1 minute
5. turn on the router (if using one) - put the power cord back in
6. wait 1 minute
7. (re)start the computer (good idea)
8. test World of Warcraft
