I can't stop the game from freezing-plz help!
| by Beanie | 24/03/2007 03:12:46 Hey there, I play on a desktop and for the past week, I have not been able to play WoW properly due to characters either not loading or the game freezing the system while I'm playing the game. I also checked my CPU performance, and WoW will have it up to 100%. My usual ms in the game has been between 132-160. This just started happening to me, and I'm not really sure what could have caused it. I have done virus scans, and I'm clear in that area. 1) I'm going to make sure there's enough air getting to the CPU; make sure all the fans are working. 2) I will look for the program mentioned that shows the CPU temperature. 3) I am completely unable to access one of my characters in WoW because she was affected during a crash, I assume. ((I'm going to delete the WTF file, and one other, as mentioned in Blizzard's Error thread.)) I use Spyware Blaster, Spybot S&D, avast! Antivirus, and Ad-Aware. edit: How do I check if it's the CPU or the motherboard causing the problem? ((Or the vid.card?)) edit: I have Defragged, updated drivers, ran virus scans, uninstalled WOW and defragged, and reinstalled WOW. I have run the repair.exe. None of this has changed anything. The CPU can jump to 100% when the game wants to load information, such as the graphics for items on people around you, or the next area you are heading into, this isnt normally a problem and it will normally be temporary unless your system has a lot of other things happening in the background. If however the computer is simply locking up and you cannot do anything, then this is a problem. To start, please delete the WTF, Cache and Interface folders, or rename then if you prefer. This can solve many problems from disconnections, freezes and latency, normally caused by an out of date UI mod, or corrupt UI mod that is causing problems. Overheating is a common cause of lockups, especially as we head into the warmer months. To test for any overheating the easiest way to know for sure is to open the side of the computer case and aim a desk fan or pedestal fan into the opening. This will provide more air flow than any internal fans can provide and if the errors stop you can be fairly sure that there is an overheating issue. Also if you feel comfortable accessing the inside of the computer you can check that all the fans are running properly and aren't full of dust as this will also block airflow. Also please be sure you have the latest video, sound, network card and motherboard drivers. More information on identifying your video and sound driver versions can be found at: http://www.blizzard.com/support/wow/?id=mgi0371p You have already done a lot of the other steps I would recommend, so please try these to see if anything helps for the moment. |
