I actually believe that if more women got past hiding out from the few less mature male players, that they would find that they can gain the respect they so much desire from everyone else.

I'm sure this topic is going to come up many times and I will say as a female that has gamed for many years now that I have rarely had my gender work against me nor have I ever played the female "give me stuff" card (though maybe I should have). ;)

All in all though, I think it's best that if we as a community stop tolerating the behavior we can overcome it. Sure that may be pretty optimistic to some but honestly, standing your ground about what is tolerable can work wonders.

When I said "We as a community" I meant males and females need to not put up with the behavior. Yes, I can moderate on these forums since I have the power here and there are specific rules I can enforce based on harassment of others. In game I can pick and choose who to interact with, ignore or even report the behavior to the GMs to handle. This isn't about anyone needing to develop a thick skin but about a community as a whole deciding how it wants to be and treat each other.

That said, this thread has become a flame-fest and too many people are avoiding the profanity filter and bringing in topics that should not be discussed on these forums.

I'm going to shut this thread down. In the end, respect should be a two way street. If you want it, you need to give it. Change won't happen overnight, but I've seen it happen over the years and know it can happen.
