Graphical Issues since patch 4.0.1
by Davidedl | 14/10/2010 04:53:30![]() I have seen a few different threads with people having graphical issues after downloading and installing the new patch. From what I have seen, most of the systems are being affected by out of date video drivers, but there are a few others that are being affected even though their system is up to date. If you are experiencing graphical issues try the following: * Make sure that your video driver is up to date -Nvidia drivers: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx?lang=en-us -ATI drivers: http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx -Intel drivers: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx -VIA drivers: http://www.via.com.tw/en/support/drivers.jsp * If the video driver has been updated and the issue continues, be sure to reset the game to default settings and then test the game out. The game will choose the best settings for your video card so after resetting the game you should not have to go in and change any settings. Go into the World of Warcraft folder and delete the WTF, Cache, and Interface folders. * If you have an up to date video card and you have reset the WTF, Cache, and Interface and are still experiencing graphical issues try this: 1. Go into the in-game video settings 2. Locate "Multisampling" 3. Set it to 1x 4. Apply the change and restart the game Another setting you can change to try to see any improvement is the "Sunshafts" setting. If it is enabled and you are having graphical issues, try disabling it. Then apply the changes and restart the game. * If you have an Intel video chipset with updated drivers and are still having graphical issues try this: 1. Load up the game completely and while in-game type this: /console fixedfunction 1 2. Hit enter on the keyboard, exit and restart the game * If you are using any VIA chipset like UniChrome Pro IGP This chipset manufacture has not really updated their drivers in a while. WoW itself doesn't support the chipset either. Since the drivers have not been updated in a while, it's only a matter of time before that chipset can't process the graphical data, which looks like that time came with the new patch. There are a few things that you can try out, but to be honest, I recommend upgrading to a stand alone video card like Nvidia or ATI. Here's a few things you can try: - Make sure sure the driver is the newest one available - Run the game in opengl mode - Click Start - Highlight Programs - Highlight World of Warcraft without clicking on it. - Right click on the World of Warcraft icon - Click Properties - In the Target field, add '-opengl' after the last quotation mark Example: "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Launcher.exe" -opengl - Click OK - Try the game now with the icon you just modified. - Run the game in swtnl mode - Click Start - Highlight Programs - Highlight World of Warcraft without clicking on it. - Right click on the World of Warcraft icon - Click Properties - In the Target field, add '-swtnll' after the last quotation mark Example: "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Launcher.exe" -swtnl - Click OK - Try the game now with the icon you just modified. - Try adding the fixedfunction option to the game 1. Type the following in-game: /console fixedfunction 1 2. Hit Enter 3. Then restart the game. This thread will be updated with any other possible fixes The other thread, much like the other graphical issues threads, was getting too many random posts. If the steps in this thread don't help please start your own thread so that we can assist you individually. I'm on the forums Monday to Friday from 11:45am to 8pm Pacific Standard Time. by Datth | 14/10/2010 23:53:02![]() Some people have reported that certain spell effects aren't showing up properly, or they look "reduced". In patch 4.0.1, we've put in a system where the game can figure out if someone is casting a spell and give it a light-weight feeling, letting you see your own spells a bit more in the thick of battle. You can adjust this feature under Interface -> Display -> Emphasize My Spell Effects If you can't see the ground effects on your own spell, check the Video options -> Projected Textures [ Post edited by Datth ] Tech Support/Billing All of a sudden....VOID RAY!
