[Feedback] Westfall (Or, R.I.P. Old Blanchy)
by Eduardo | 19/05/2010 12:48:22![]() Honestly, if people considered classic Westfall as epic, you guys upgraded this to legendary status. There were some phasing bugs that I reported when doing the quests, but overall the story is fantastic. It's a great progression of the lore, and each quest left me wanting to find out more about what was going on. At the end I could just hear Homer Simpson going "Doh!" at the outcome (5 years down the drain and all). So in terms of story and flow, it's a Wrath quality zone for sure. Directed very well, hubs in great locations and a fun quest here and there to break the monotony. But I do have some feedback on it beyond that, so here goes. Feedback: The Raging Chasm The Raging Chasm looks awesome, but there's only one quest involved with it, which in turn means there's only one quest actually involved in the Cataclysm. Everything else seems to be related to things that happened 5 years ago (based on the story; I'll avoid spoilers because it is an awesome story change) or due to Northrend. It seems like with such a drastic modification of the terrain there should be at least one or two more quests here. Surely the gnomes would be interested in taking readings of such a seismic or magical event? Or maybe someone would like to study the Unbound Cyclones that are abundant? Feedback: Murder Was the Case That They Gave Me I've done this quest twice, once on my dwarf shaman and the second time on my human hunter. The first time I tried to be a bit random and talk to them instead of bribing every single time. It turned out that bribing them meant I got the clue every time, and trying to talk with them usually never resulted in getting the clue (I think I got a clue once from just talking). In a lot of cases they attacked me and I had to kill them. That seems a bit strange; I know they're destitute, but I'm acting in the interest of an investigator who is trying to uncover a murder mystery. In the grand scheme of things their actions make sense, but they shouldn't tip their hand that early. At most they should tell the player to screw off and not talk to them (resulting in a debuff to prevent talking to the same NPC more than once every x minutes), or in the very rare case they panic and attack. Bug: Two-Shoed Lou Quests The "Meet Two-Shoed Lou" quest worked fine. However, after turning it in he had an exclamation mark over his head but he and Lieutenant Horatio immediately disappeared. Two other NPCs offered quests at the location, but I had to take the flight path to another location and then return to get them to show up again. The same thing happened after the eavesdropping quest; the shots fired and it told me to get back to the camp, but when I arrived all I saw was the dialogue and no NPCs. I had to take the flight path to another location and return for them to show up. Feedback: Feeding the Hungry and the Hopeless It would be nice if you could feed people outside of Sentinel Hill. I can see some potential frustration with this due to the number of people you're required to feed. Anyone who eats the stew receives a debuff that prevents them from giving other players credit until it wears off, which means if there's competition for the NPCs around Sentinel Hill then it could prove to be one of the more frustrating quests in the zone. I would suggest allowing Moonbrook as well, but make the "dawning" event a phase so that someone can't complete the quest in one use of the stew. If the dawning is already a phase, it's not working properly, as I saw the mass of NPCs for it when running around aimlessly on my shaman (and not close to that step in the quest series). Feedback: Secrets of the Tower I left feedback in-game on this quest, but figured I'd include it in the post. It definitely needs to be improved; it took around 3 minutes for the dialogue to start between Helix and the Shadowy Figure. So either there's a trigger with a very small radius, or something else. But I ran around the room multiple times both with the invis potion active and without, and it took a really long time for the dialogue to start. Feedback: Moonbrook While the "Vision of the Past" quest was awesome, the Moonbrook area seems underused now. It's primarily an area for quest object interaction, with a few thugs to kill in-between (of which one dropped a bandana quest starter item that I couldn't use at the time; left feedback on that). It would be nice to see another quest or two in this area and the foothills above it. I had no reason to go up there, whereas in classic multiple quests led me there, both from within the zone and from other zones. General Thoughts Overall I think the zone is above and beyond what it was in classic, which is impressive considering how great it was. The annoying collect quests are missing, and the kill quests generally require fewer targets than before. Without heirlooms I left Westfall at right around level 16. [ Post edited by Eduardo ] |

Good feedback. Many of the bugs you noted (Mortwake's Tower, Two Shoed Lou, Moonbrook rally, etc...) are a result of invisibility being broken in the current alpha build. What was the actual issue with the red bandanna questgiver item? Lead World Designer |

You should have no phasing issues. What happened? Lead World Designer |

Which gnoll quest are you referring to? There should be no phasing issues with any of the gnoll quests. Also, at the top of the tower you'll find Helix speaking to the Shadowy Figure. Drinking the potion should give you invisibility as well as invis detection to allow you to see the event. Is this not happening? We are unable to reproduce either of these issues, so any details you might have will be helpful. Lead World Designer |
