I've been trying for a while now to get a picture into the Blizzard Fanart program thingy. Admittedly, I'm just not a very good artist, but I figure if it's a goal I can aim for it'll encourage me to draw better and work harder to get a picture in there.

It occured to me, however, looking at the honourable mentions and such for the comic contest thingy, that the art standards for the comics are somewhat lower so long as it's a good joke or fun writing. I may only be a mediocre artist at best (Oh, what I wouldn't give for sweet mediocrity!) I'm a fine writer, and I've been considering trying to get into that instead.

The thing that makes me wonder, though, is how few comics are chosen. I must imagine the quantity submitted is greater than the number presented, yet how harsh is quality control? Is it more a matter of luck to get into the contest, or perhaps excellent writing? Also, if I start aiming for lower artistic standards, will that just result in an overall worse picture? Should I continue striving to draw something worth putting in the fanart section, or just flood the comic contest with funny entries until one strikes the funny bone of one of their judges?

Any thoughts or experiences with either system?

We take a look at the comics based both on humor and artistic style. If a comic is particularly funny it can afford to be a little weak on the art side. If the comic isn't especially funny, it may have an art style that is appealing and gives it strength that makes up for it.

You can submit a NEW comic each month, but please don’t submit the comic more than once.

We don't have entries piling up. We collect, filter, and judge a final batch of comics. The winner for each month was submitted for the previous month. Honorable mentions may have come from any previous month, as we do pile those up sometimes.
