Emblem System

Blizzard, I really really really really really really really really really really hope you're not planning to reintroduce the emblem system of WotLK in Cataclysm. I really believe it is the worst thing you have ever done.

I understand why it was implemented but you went about it all wrong. Limiting the need for progression is one thing, but eliminating it entirely is just gross.

My goals? My goals are to find a cure for irony and make a fool out of God.

We've talked about this in the Twitter DevChat back in February (link: Developer Chat on Twitter -- 2/26/10 )

Q. What have you learned from this expansion’s emblem system?
A. Having that many different kind of emblems is overwhelming. In hindsight, we wish we had done maybe 2 emblems: the current tier and the previous tier (Frost and Triumph at the moment). They also felt a tad too grindy when 3.3 first came out before all of the sources of emblems were available.

So we like the emblem system and how it allows player who are months behind to get gear a bit easier but there are still improvements that can be made.

Emblems should be account bound. Give me some incentive to play my alts, rather than avoid them because I'd need to repeat the whole gear grind with them.

I'm not sure that would be a real incentive. Account bound emblems would encourage players to continue to play on their decked-out main character then toss stuff to their alt, get them decently geared and maybe not do anything with them at all because they are already decently geared.

The interest in playing an alt should be that it's something you want to do. The current emblem system allows these characters to gear up much faster and that is through playing the alt itself which is a good thing.

It could also help alot of people trying to gear up tanks be able to do so without going in unprepared and causing all the group-dropping that brought us a 30min debuff in the first place.

I don't see why it matters what character I grind through heroics with. They are old news, I've seen them a billion times, and I'm just there to grind my emblems. Whether I do it on 1 or 7 toons isn't affecting anyone but myself.

What it WOULD do is get some of my alts ready for raids faster. Oh the horror!

I don't quite get the last sentence... Why would I spend hours grinding badges on my tank, send them all to my mage, gear him, and then let him collect dust? It's RAIDIN TIME! Even if dust collection was in his future, still don't see how this in any way impacts the game or others.....

With the current system it only takes a couple of weeks to get to raiding level and we like that you do that through playing the actual character.

Q u o t e:

You play the actual character from levels 1-80. Do you really need to spend an equal amount of time grinding heroics to get the gear you need to raid?

If you want to continue to play and gear up a character, why should you not continue to play and gear up that character?

Because you're replaying the same content. If you want to gear a tank for raids with emblems in a few weeks then you're spending weeks doing random Heroics, which you've likely been doing for months now as it is. It's not that I disagree with your sentiments, but I also understand the annoyance with reliving the heroics grind on every new 80 character.

Well, that is part of having a lot of geared alts, to show your dedication to playing so many characters/classes. The system doesn't prevent anybody from gearing alts for raids, it may be a little painstaking but just because you did it once doesn't mean you get a free ride from there.

Solution: Gear your tank first. Tanks rule.
