are dps warriors a dying breed? i think so. i have a few reasons for thinking so. skip to the end if you want a quick synopsis
1. with raids going to 25 man, is there going to be room for classes performing a secondary function (dw enhancement shamans for that nice melee buff for example)?
2. judging by the patter of blizzards instances from zg to naxx, it seems that there is was a progressing increased requirement for tanks.
3. (this part is more opinion than the rest, so dont call me a noob and i need to lern2melee plz) also judging by the progression of the past instances, it seems to become less melee friendly. mc kinda sucked bad, a few fire packs that required melee to have extra fr, and golemagg enraging, and rag destroying melee if they weren't fast enough to back up for knock back. then the same with bwl, the growing flames dragons. the cleaving big mobs weren't so bad. then there was also the broodlord and his wicked cleaves, and firemaw certainly made it harder for melee than ranged to dance in and out of flame buffets. then there was skeram with his arcane explosion, lord kri's ass-cleave, battleguard sartura's whirlwind, and huhuran's little aoe sleep that hit the closest targets (rogues n warriors lol). i didn't go much into naxx, only up to raz, and some of those trash mobs mad being melee kinda wicked.
3a. if future instances are also melee unfriendly, would it be worth giving up a ranged class to get an extra dps warrior when u already got 3 warriors for tanking purposes? sure, warriors can deal the highest damage in the game i believe, easy competators for #1 slot in damage, but with no aggro dump short of dying would it really be better to have a warrior than another mage or hunter, or even another healer?
once again, judging by blizzards seeminly less and less melee friendly end game instances and fewer raid spots available to toy around with classes performing their secondary rolls (dps warrior, feral druid, exmple) the dps warrior will not be as common as it was in the past year. |
