Decrease Lightning Shield Mana Cost

In terms of mana efficiency, lightning shield is not a very good ability. its totally defensive, basically a damage over time skill, that can only proc once every few seconds, unlike some other very nice damage shields that do less damage but proc every hit, and DONT have a limited number of charges.

At rank 8, it costs 430 mana and does 266-267 periodic damage three times, amounting to a maximum total of 801. Compare this to lightning bolt, which given a 2-3 second cast time, doing up to 602 damage plus more spell damage for being a castable, costing 270 mana. Even with talents for mana efficiency, LB is high above lightning shield in terms of efficiency. If you want to conserve your mana, you're actually better off depending on lightning bolts and shocks for your damage and not using lightning shield at all. I've found i run out of mana about 20% faster when i use lightning shield, but the mobs only die about 10% faster.

I would thoroughly appreciate seeing some kind of fundamental or even superficial change to lightning shield.

Personally, I would vote to remove the charges, lower the damage, and make it a 10 minute duration damage shield like retaliation aura or holy shield, or better yet a damaging aura that does periodic damage to combat engaged targets within a small radius around the caster.

But if a fundamental change is out of the question, just lowering the mana cost of this spell by about 100 mana would go a long way to improving its usefulness. For a class that can do about bugger all without mana, inefficient spells are NOT helpful.

Thanks for the feedback. We are actually looking into both Lightning Shield and Earth Shield, but at this time nothing specific is planned.

Q u o t e:

Will any changes to earth shield or lightning shield be going into the upcoming 2.3 release?

It's possible, but again nothing is planned, currently. We want to see how everything we've already changed in patch 2.3 plays out and make adjustments as necessary.
