Can't Change Realms

Hi,

I just got back from Spring Break yesterday, but I hadn't played at all yesterday (because of maintenance). Well, last night when I tried to get on, I am able to log into Ravencrest, where I have an alt Death Knight. However, my main hunter (who is 80) is on Laughing Skull.

I can log in fine, and it connects, and I am able to play on Ravencrest. However, when I click the button to "change realms," the screen comes up saying "Retrieving realm list." I have waited forever and it gets stuck on this screen. On one occasion it popped up a screen saying "session timed out," but other than that, usually the screen sticks on "Retrieving realm list."

I have used the repair utility and then made sure that the realmlist.wtf had the required text in it. I am using a shared internet connection in a dorm, but the routers are controlled by the computer center staff and I have no control over those (and they have always worked just fine).

Any suggestions?

Hello

What happens if you try to set the realm manually?

1. Open the World of Warcraft folder on your hard drive (Default Folder: C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft or C:\Users\Public\Games\World of Warcraft for Vista users).
2. Open the WTF folder.
3. Open the Config.wtf file using a text editor, like WordPad.

Locate the line:

SET realmName "Realm Name"

Change this to: SET realmName "Your Realm"
-Example: SET realmName "Silver Hand"

Now save the file and launch the game.

It sounds like something is blocking the data from being properly accessed.

This could be a firewall or it could be an issue with the security on your colleges network. If you know anyone else that plays on campus you may want to ask them to try changing realms and see if they have the same issues.

You may need to contact the network admins and ask them if they have any shapers or sniffers on TCP port 3724 and if so if they can remove them for World of Warcraft (wow.exe).
