@Blizzard, how is season 3 delay logical?

Opel

im going to make this as constructive as possible.

Q u o t e:
Everyone is preparing for the start of the third arena season and we’re excited to get new items, rewards, and fresh competition going for everyone participating in the arenas.

As we approach the previously announced start date we’ve had growing concerns of what the new season requires of us to actually launch, and its proximity to the Thanksgiving holiday. Everyone wants the launch go as smoothly as possible, and in order to have resources available to tend to any issues as soon as they may spring up, we’ve decided to delay the Season 3 start date to November 27. One week after the previously announced date.

This allows us to have the quickest response time to any issues should they occur, and allows everyone to enjoy the holiday and the days leading up to it. While making everyone wait another week obviously isn’t the optimal outcome, in the end we decided it would be much worse to start Season 3 so close to the holiday and potentially make players wait longer until a problem can be resolved. Ultimately it allows us to provide the best possible service for everyone as we launch the new season.

I fail to see the logic in this, did you even think about what you just decided to do? Despite the fact that this season has gone on so long that the ratings are through the roof (my team, which would have been around 16th season 1 on my bg, is 46th and dropping fast), despite the fact that adding on the inactive team rule doesnt balance with the length of the season, and despite the public calling for a new season which they are without a doubt warranted, you delay further.

There should be no issues to address, thats what the PTR is for. Granted, there is a chance that things can go wrong with the release of the season (such as teams getting gladiator who shouldnt, etc), but there will always be those chances. Anything that could happen for the release of season 3 should have already been corrected from releasing season 2. So was the release of season 3 on PTR useless? Did you learn nothing from releasing season 2? Im not sure how releasing a season is going to cause anything horrible to go wrong when you've done it enough times that it should be as smooth as ever. If you decide to delay then give a good reason, not a placeholder. Id rather have a new season and not be able to play in it right away than be stuck in an old one, im sure im not alone.

At the same time, im not sure how releasing season 3 AFTER thanksgiving helps anybody. It doesnt help blizzard's reputation for being on time, which is already not spectacular to begin with, but it doesnt help the teams who deserve gladiator. Sure you said there was a chance of delay, but think of how many teams are getting screwed over because their teammates are out of town for thanksgiving, causing them to drop below the standard. You can tell me im making this cause i want gladiator, well guess what: you're right, and i dont want to miss out on it because blizzard decides that they want to release it after a holiday.

Customers come first, release it tuesday - or even calculate the teams who get titles on tuesday and wait to release the season still. The fact that you are giving players time in 2.3 at the end of the season is bad enough, make up for it.

We took a lot into consideration when making the decision, yes. It wasn't an easy one. The length of the second season plays no part in anything, it's going to be a few weeks longer than Season 1 was, but the seasons last as long as they need to. They're based on upkeep compared to PvE progression, so the length of a season really isn't a factor.

There will always be chances when releasing something even when there is a PTR to test it, and when we announced the date originally it was a calculated risk. As time went on that risk overwhelmed what we felt was safe and appropriate, and decided to not go ahead with it. The tests on the PTR should never be discounted, but it's hardly a test as compared to a launch for over 200 realms, and running calculations and database scripts for millions of players.

Once. We've done it once.

Well there's the rub, what is a good reason for us isn't always going to be a good reason for you. It's not always enjoyable or easy to understand the decisions we have to make that are ultimately for the player's benefit.

If delaying the release of a product ensures that we're able to put out something of high quality, and quickly respond to our player's needs and requests, then we will always, and gladly, be known for delaying products.
