Blizzard doesn't care
by Frontsurgery | 09/03/2010 14:07:33![]() Blizzard as a paying customer I am pretty disappointed in your lack of "care" for the customers. When people complain or commonly known as "qqing", its a matter of critiquing a flaw in the game that the community agrees needs to be changed. It is now quite apparent that you don't even take the time to look at these "qqs" because honestly you really aren't interested. You just do what best benefits your pockets the most, but on the other hand, what business doesn't? I will give you a few examples of what I am talking about. #1. The battleground Alterac Valley has been blatantly unbalanced and Alliance favored since vanilla, people have complained about it numerous times, and what have you done? Nothing. #2 Certain classes being unbalanced or "OP". Right now the trend going around is that Pallies are "OP" and people have been complaining about them being unbalanced since BC and the launch of Wotlk. What have you done to fix them? Nothing. As a matter of fact you continue to buff them, ironic right? #3 Lying. Although people don't generally complain about lying I will give you an example. As I recall, you have always said and implied that you don't balance a class around 1v1, correct? well then if that is so how come you recently nerfed the warrior class over 1v1 combat? Heres a quote from Ghostcrawler regarding this: "Considering all of the stuns and silences that Prot has, when they can also jump out of every Frost Nova with Warbringer, then there's not much in the way of skill a mage can employ to stay alive. They just get countered in every way"-Ghostcrawler Well Ghostcrawler, considering all the heals, massive burst damage, more heals, shields, buffs, abilities to get out of movement impairing effects (hand of freedom), ability to get rid of any disease (cleanse) and the two extra lives that pallys have (divine shield+heal and LoH), there's not much in the way of a skilled any class can employ to stay alive. They just get countered in every way. These are just a few examples, I am not saying a lot for the sake of time. [ Post edited by Frontsurgery ] |

This is a vast community formed around a game which caters to many different play styles, and therefore many different types of players with varying opinions. It is our job to consider the critiques of the community, but it's very rare to find a major point of concern upon which a large majority of players agree. The first page of this thread is evidence of that.
We have discussed this numerous times. Based on the data we've collected over the years after all of the changes that have been made to Alterac Valley, we simply do not agree that there are any glaring imbalances in the map favoring one side over the other enough to easily sway a match one way or the other.
Whether or not you feel any specific class is overpowered proves very little about our attempts to balance each class. If you feel we've done nothing to "fix" a class since The Burning Crusade, or especially if the same class has been favored in PvP for over three years now, you haven't been following along: http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/patchnotes/
We're not in the business of lying to players. We do everything we can to be as forthcoming and informative as possible. It's difficult though when there are a lot of people reading our words with strong feelings and preconceived notions, and only a few of us to try and best explain ourselves. Warriors were not changed simply because mages lacked counters in a 1v1 setting. Ghostcrawler used a singular example to point at a glaring issue that applied to many different situations and you read through his words as you saw fit to try and prove your own point. The truth is that player feedback is important to us, but it doesn't mean we won't filter it to the best of our ability. With a large playerbase and an open collection of discussion forums, we can't always act on the concerns shouted the loudest. We will take all matters into consideration, run our own tests, check data and trends from all of our realms around the world, and make a decision about how best to move forward. That decision may not always be the one you want us to make, but it will be made if we feel it's best for the community at-large. I understand your concern. That said, for the purposes of backing up what I stated and you quoted out of context, we were as informative and forthcoming as possible regarding that situation. We did make a mistake with these items, however we did not want them to last forever and could not update the tooltips without a client-side patch. Our option was to do what we felt was right for these items and let players know about it, spreading that information as best as possible (as was appropriate for the size and scope of the issue): http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=23329392977&
This isn't going to be the catch-all thread where any player can jump and say "I feel an issue is present here and have plenty of people to back me up, therefore you do not care." Do not jump into threads where a Blizzard employee is responding simply to suggest we should be posting elsewhere. There are too many threads and too many questions on these forums for that to be a fair way to get our attention, and it's not tolerated. Refer to post #76: Blizzard doesn't care
Your argument is, "it's amazing that Blizzard will respond to a, while leaving b, c, d, e, f, g, h, i, j, k, l, m, n, o, p, q, r, s, t, u, v, w, x, y, z" (each multiplied by a few hundred thousand a day). Even if we had triple the staff on the community team and we were responsible for nothing other than posting on the forums, we still wouldn't satisfy the concerns of every player posting. Don't fly into the blue light when you see it and scream that you weren't expecting the result. You should leave this thread knowing you're not guaranteed a response to anything here on the forums, and what you consider to be the most pressing issue of the day probably isn't a view shared by the majority of the posters here. It is part of our job to interact with the community on many different levels, both in serious and light-hearted matters, while also taking on numerous tasks behind the scenes. That said, if you want to leave feedback regarding our performance, you're welcome to email WoWCMFeedback@Blizzard.com. Lying implies there is an intent to deceive. We didn't tell players they would have new dances in this expansion knowing full well we weren't going to do it. Sometimes we fall short of our development goals and have to push things off the table to make other things better. It's not something we like to do. These decisions to have to be made though with a company as large as ours, and a game as epansive as World of Warcraft. Unfortunately, while new dances have been a work in-progress, they're lower priority than a lot of other content we'd like to add. I'm not disputing that we said there would be new dances with the expansion and, thus far, there haven't been. I'm simply suggesting that we use the term "lying" as it is defined, rather than as a blanket term for "anything that Blizzard didn't follow through on." There's a difference worth noting. I'm not going to defend our actions against falsely defined accusations. As I said in my post you quoted, "based on the data we've collected over the years after all of the changes that have been made to Alterac Valley..." This includes the movement of the Horde starting area.
It's the age-old fallacious argument that we, Blizzard, must only look at data behind the scenes and have no actual attachment to the game as players. It's a game developed for players by players. If you feel this is an appropriate leap to an argument, I'll take an equally fair leap and assert that I've probably played more Alterac Valley matches levels 60-80 as both Horde and Alliance than you.
Who is "us"? Community wants and needs are much more complicated and divided than you seem to think. Everything we do to add to or change this game is with the goal of making it better for as many people as possible. This is in part why we still have a massive and committed playerbase after five years in the running.
