I'm not sure that vehicles would actually break the definition of a platformer, especially in the way it looks like they've implemented them. In any case, I'd rather see something new like this, and experience something different, than have another platformer with some remixed weapons and abilities and vehicles thrown as a between-mission gag. If it isn't a good time to try new things, then when is it a good time? We're alive during a great time in game development history, and I feel it's important to embrace the sprawl rather than try to contain everything for nostalgia's sake.
