Are some mobs scripted to patrol towards you?

In every zone there is a mob (usually a flying one) that always gets me when I'm sitting down and drinking. It seems like they turn around and start heading towards you before I even aggro.

Can I get confirmation that some mobs are scripted to patrol towards a player?

I sure know what you are talking about, but it also seems like you are attributing sentience to coding. Pathing can involve an area which a monster will move within, but the only trigger that exists is the threat meter. As far as I know, eating and drinking does not cause threat.

The monster does not realize you are having a picnic unless you are chowing down close to it.

My sig is oddly appropriate.

And Tseric, what about animations that occur when NPCs meet up with each other (i.e talking, shouting, laughing, cast buffs), are those hard coded as part of the pathing sequence or are they just behaviors that are called when NPCs just get in a certain radius?

Good question and I'm not entirely sure. My gut is saying that it is a triggered action, as it can happen depending on pathing. My head tells me that this is not all cases and that some parts or creatures are scripted specifically.

Monsters standing around buffing themselves seems like "random" behavior.

Actually they are scripted to "head towards you". Go to hellfire and kill some buzzards. When you kill one another won't agro but just head in that direction until it gets close enough to agro. It happens every single time with out fail if there is another buzzard with in 30 yards.

They are specifically coded as "social" creatures, or creatures that will aggro on anothers death, call for help, or other signals which attract others. Several creatures have this type of social behavior.
