The announcement and further information can be found here: Blizzard to Join Forces With Activision

Q: What are the details of the deal?
A: Under the terms of an agreement with Vivendi, Blizzard and the other companies that make up Vivendi Games will combine with Activision to form a new public company called Activision Blizzard. We do not anticipate any difference in Blizzard’s operations as a result of the combination. Joining forces with Activision will create a stronger and more diversified company that we anticipate will benefit and strengthen both brands.

A: There will be no changes in the way Blizzard operates. All of the people, processes, and philosophies that have made Blizzard so successful will be preserved. Blizzard will benefit from all-star sales and distribution teams to service our products. In addition, the combined company will be stronger financially, managerially, and operationally.

Q: How will this impact Blizzard’s games?
A: This will not impact Blizzard’s games. We remain committed to providing the same high-quality game content and support that we always have. Development on Wrath of the Lich King and StarCraft II, as well as on our unannounced games, is continuing as normal.

Q: Will there be any visible differences in Blizzard’s logo or packaging/marketing materials as a result of this deal?
A: No, there won’t be any changes to our company name, logo, packaging/marketing materials, or anything else along those lines.

Q: Will there be any management changes at Blizzard as a result of this deal?
A: No, there won’t be any management changes at Blizzard as a result of the combination.

Q: Will Activision and Blizzard now share development teams?
A: No, both of our companies will continue to operate as they have previously with regard to game development.

Q: Will the release schedules for any Blizzard games be impacted?
A: No, the transaction will not have any impact on our games, our day-to-day operations, or our release timelines.

Q: Will any of Blizzard’s offices close as a result of the deal? Or, will any new offices open?
A: No, all of our offices will continue to function as they have, and we don’t foresee the need to open any new offices for the time being.

Q: Will any employees move to different offices as a result of the deal?
A: We don’t anticipate making any such moves as a result of the deal.

Q: Does this deal include Activision’s and Blizzard’s international offices?
A: Yes, every part of our companies in the U.S. and abroad is involved in this deal.

Q: If Activision Blizzard is a public company, does that mean I’ll now be able to buy stock in Blizzard?
A: Activision will be renamed Activision Blizzard, Inc and will continue to be a publicly listed company traded on NASDAQ. You will be able to buy stock in the combined company.

Q: When will the transaction be complete?
A: The transaction is subject to approval of Activision shareholders, customary closing conditions, and regulatory approvals. Pending approval, the companies expect the transaction to be completed by mid 2008.

Q u o t e:
Blizzard must've pressed the Big Red Button that summons all CM's to their stations. "WARNING, WARNING, BRING YOUR THREAD LOCKING KEYS! WE'RE UNDER ATTACK!"

We don't have a Big Red Button. I keep telling everyone we should get one and a fire pole to slide down, but apparently, that isn't possible due to liability issues in case one of us gets hurt.

We're all of course keeping tabs on things since we want people to understand what this change does and doesn't mean and so we can avoid false rumors or misunderstandings.

We will all keep working on and developing the same great games we always have. The doom sayers are fun to read for a bit, but the sky really isn't falling in this case contrary to what some may try to say.

Q u o t e:
Having been part of a company in this situation, let's put this in the simplest terms: Vivendi bought Activision.

Please read the press release again as well as our FAQ. We'll be clarifying more for those who don't understand the matter, for one reason or another. I would like you personally to read the information that's been provided again, and please don't allow your own experiences to taint your understanding of the situation.

I can guarantee you, while you may seemingly identify with particular similarities -- this is by and far VERY different, which is the conclusion I came to, upon reading your response.

Q u o t e:
If nothing is happening why make this topic, many have asked. Many have responded "To stop the end of blizzard threads that would show up." Well, not all gamers are stupid. things will change. If nothing really would change then this topic would have no point, and the end of blizzard threads could just slide of the front page. ZOMG CONSPIRACY!

People have asked several times as to why we would make this announcement. It's pretty simple really. This is a major transaction being enacted. It is now public knowledge that this transaction is occurring. Given this information, we wanted to make sure that our community was aware of how this would affect Blizzard Entertainment itself. If you read the FAQ, you will see that we will continue to be known as Blizzard Entertainment and do not have any changes planned for the company structure or projects. What this does though, is make Vivendi and Blizzard and Activision all stronger. It opens up more resources for us all and allows us all to continue pushing forward and creating the great games, products, and services we're known for.

While we will do our best to provide more details where we can, there are of course some internal workings that can not be made available to the public.
Nothing endures but change.

Q u o t e:
Does this mean I can now post about how on guitar hero 3 Lou owns me to death on expert!!??

You could always do this, you just need to do it on the off-topic forum. I envy you being able to play on expert though. I'm happy if I get through Medium. :)

Q u o t e:

Lies you don't envy them.

On topic, from the sounds of the faq nothings changed basically?

We're business as usual on our end. It just means a stronger company overall. People are letting their fears run away with them, but we're just stronger than ever and continue to keep focused on future World of Warcraft development as well as SC2 and more.

Q u o t e:
I dont buy a world of that "FAQ".

It wont effect anything
Both companies will be totally independent
Neither company will share resources

We're not stating that this won't affect anything, obviously there is a purpose to this change, and to give examples; once the transaction is complete we will be stronger from a financial, managerial and operational stand-point.

There will be many other benefits as well.

What isn't affected is how we will continue to operate as a development studio. As stated in the FAQ, our philosophies will remain. To really break it down, the 'heart' of Blizzard and all that we stand for and seek to accomplish will not be diminished. I've been with Blizzard for six years and know what I'm saying to be true, and I'm personally exceedingly excited about this change.
