Account Hacked, Battlenet Authenticator Added
by Shinz | 06/05/2010 12:51:10![]() Hi, as of last night I believe my account has been taken over. I logged on to my account this afternoon to notice that I was asked for another code to enter the game. I sent off an email to blizzard about this as soon as I became suspicious but am worried that an email will do next to nothing, all the while some gold farmer is playing around with my toon. Two new toons have been created on the account on different servers from what I can see and my password has not been changed, but I can do nothing at all on the account without this Battlenet account that I never signed up for. Any tips on how to fix this quickly? I hear alot of stories about these issues dragging out for a long time. |
by Syndri | 06/05/2010 20:05:07![]() Hey there, Shinz. I'm very sorry to hear that you're having difficulty accessing your account. =/ Unfortunately, this is a very common trend: in many cases of compromise, an unauthorized party will associate an Authenticator with the account in order to prevent the registered user from logging in. Our Account Services department can help, though! We've many representatives that are more than happy to assist you in recovering your account. I wouldn't think so, NemesΓ―s, as the Battle.net Authenticator cannot be used to compromise an account. Do malicious parties frequently associate an unauthorized Authenticator with an account after it's been compromised? Yes. But the device itself does not actually lead to the theft. Please note that in order for an unauthorized Authenticator to be associated with an account, the account must already be compromised. This means that the account's name and password were gleaned previously and the compromise would have occurred, regardless. BY FIRE BE SECURED! It’s never “too soon” to protect your account. As part of the investigation process, Foresale, we work not only to restore an account, but also to identify the source of its compromise. If an Authenticator was involved, that's investigated, too.
