Wtf?

I Command+Quit out of Warcraft when the auction house couldn't respond and the game wouldn't log out.

Now I log back in and the server tells me the character already exists?

I would never recommend that you quit out of the game by pressing Command + q, this will result in IP connection corruption, since there is never a handshake telling the system that you are disconnecting, and you'll have lots of issues afterwards, like the realm still seeing you in there.

If you don't get a response from the game, you have either already been disconnected and the computer will need 2 mins to disconnect completely, or you have high latency, and we need to talk.

Easiest way to reset the "character with that name already exists?" issue is to log into any other character, then to log out, and try logging back into your original character.

You might need to also flush your DNS cache, since the connection was severed :

The DNS cache may need to be flushed. To do this go into the Terminal (Go > Utilities > Terminal) and type in the following:

For Leopard (10.5):
dscacheutil -flushcache
- press Return

For Tiger (10.4) and Panther (10.3):
lookupd -flushcache
- press Return

( The system will not give any type of acknowledgment after you run the command. )

Try the game after performing these commands.

Try resetting the PRAM if the DNS flush didn't help:

Reset PRAM:

(Note: in order for this procedure to work the sound must be working normally and not muted)

1. (re)start the computer
2. right after the initial system chime press Opt+command (Apple)+p+r
3. hold these keys down until you get two more chimes
4. let go of the keys and let the system boot up naturally (do not press any keys)

( If sound is not an option: press the keys stated above right after the (re)start,
and instead of listening for the 2 chimes, the screen will flash white 2 times.)

If that doesn't help, then your toon is stuck in-between two servers and will need help from a Game Masters:

1. click on the red ? (Help Request) button
2. click on the Character Stuck button
3. click on the Open Ticket button
