Who gets to go

I currently belong to a casual guild. However, it has enough players who want to go to Kara in any given week to form one and a half teams - which is a problem, because this means some people get left out.

In the past players have been selected in a dictatorial fashion, with a strong bias towards selecting whoever went the previous week, but this has caused resentment at the perceived clique of insiders who get privileged access to epics. One or two people have left, including a highly skilled and well-geared player who objected to the system.

Is there a better way? How do you guys select who gets to go on each raid in Kara and beyond?

I think casual guilds will always have trouble with this sort of question. On the one hand, lots of players want to go to raids and will be upset if they're consistently left out, on the other hand, if you keep rotating who you take, you'll normally end up with quite slow progress through the instance because people will need to relearn encounters every time, which will frustrate some of the more experienced players.

Whatever way you decide, some people will be unhappy and leave. I personally think it's a good idea to have some degree of rotation, but i'd try to make sure there's atleast a few experienced players in each raid.

Perhaps a sort of fudged dual rotation - half the raid is taken from previous experienced raiders, and half from new or relatively new sign ups?

There's not really any easy answer, if you have a specific raid leader or leaders you will need to discuss the situation with them - you wont want them getting frustrated at having to explain the Moroes encounter again for the Nth time.
