Time to reduce the number of sticky threads

Q u o t e:
Hi Van

Can I suggest a mod does it. Not because I'm lazy but a thread 'owned' by a player can only be kept up to date by that player, and we're a transient bunch at the best of times.

We would prefer if player made guides and such is a thing that stays with the players, to keep it entirely player made. I know that it might become a problem if there are three players having guides in one thread, but only one has editing rights, so I would therefore like to suggest the same thing I suggested in the Hunter forum:

Someone should create the initial guide compilation thread, and then get it reported for a sticky.

Then if someone in the future wants to make an update to their guide, but hasn't got editing rights, then they either make a reply in the sticky thread where they post the information they wish to have updated so that the person with editing rights can add it, or they create an entirely new guide compilation thread where they copy all the information from the old compilation thread, then add their own updated information and then they get the new thread reported for a sticky to replace the old one.

Another solution to this problem could be to create a wiki. The Mages have done this in their forum and they have many of their guides located there:
http://magewiki.wikispaces.com/

Q u o t e:
Otherwise you end up with out of date information on the first post & have to trawl through endless /bump /sticky please posts to find any updates.

It has a potential to become a mess, and it would therefore be a great idea to make the first post an index or navigation post so that there is an overview to make it easier to find the wanted information.

Failing that I volunteer to compile a druid humour thread. For keeping Alamo safe :)

You just added another sticky to the ever growing list.
Not trolling, but yea I admit it does need reducing.

I know, but this sticky is just to inform people and is just temporary... This thread will get unstickied in a weeks time together with all the current guide sticky threads, so lets just hope that a kind soul will create some nice new guide compilation threads before then. :-)

Hey van I don't mean to be rude or mean anything to disrespect you but right now we kinda have bigger problems to worry about than to many sticky threads on the forum. Most of the bears I know agreed that we needed to get toned down a bit in bear, but this was just a SICK nerf and we haven't gotten any answers to our questions. I won't say all questions here cause they are already all over the forum.

Sorry that I went off-topic but I saw that you already posted twice in this thread so hopefully you will see this message.

Thanks for all the great work you've done to us in the past, hopefully you can help us once again

I fully understand your feelings and I acknowledge that guide sticky threads are not your primary concern... I have nothing to say against that really. But my primary concern among other things is these forums and the task of moderating them and keeping them clean, and this thread is about that and nothing more. I know that this is much less important for some people, but that doesn't mean that it should not be done.

When we have more feedback for you regarding the Bear Form changes, then we will post that information in one of those other threads that are dedicated to that topic.

It's very hard to put all the gear in same thread. You have gear for tanking and for dps. Then you have gear for balance and resto. No other class has that ammount of diversity.

The guides for each talent may be put together, by someone that knows how to do it (I don't). The macros might be added to the druid information.

The epic flight form sticky might be deleted and a new created when there's more info about it. Since that's the only epic quest we'll have, then we'll create a thread for it.

Basically, what I'm seeing is something like:

DPS gear sticky
Tank gear sticky
Heaing gear sticky (if people consider it needed)
Balance gear sticky (if people consider it needed)
Talent guide sticky (contains all the possible builds and how to use them)
Info stickys (contains IRC channel, macros, a overall look at druid)
Epic quest (in future)

what you think?

That could work :-)

The purpose of this is to reduce the number of sticky threads, but how to reach that goal is really up to you guys :-)

Great idea, idd. And then you can have a small number of stickies that each direct the, erm, reader to the said wikipage with a small amount of text to serve as a guideline.

Yep :-)

In case you guys need some inspiration; here is how the Paladins created their guide compilation threads (check the stickies in their forum):
