Thread necromancy

What's with all the resurrecting of threads that's going on today? Threads that have been dead for months or even a year are popping up again. Why is this necessary when so many new threads keep popping up with exactly the same subject?

I'm getting scared.

Just keep reporting them. We'll deal with the culprits.
That'll be 10c, please.

Q u o t e:
I still don't get the logic about necromancy tbh,
If I'll post a new topic it'll be omg use surch function noob.
If I'll post in an old topic it'll be omg tred necromancy ftl

What a difference a day makes. Or two... or maybe three.
Finding a topic that's still relevant and less than, say, 3 or 4 days old can be useful.
Finding the oldest thread that is in no way relevant anymore and bumping it for injustice is just plain wrong.

We don't auto-lock or auto-delete old threads because posting in old threads in itself is not what we would call thread necromancy. If you are making a relevant contribution to a thread, it doesn't really matter how old the thread is.

What we disapprove of is the bumping of old posts without any constructive reason. Bumping a thread about opening the gates of Ahn'Qiraj or about the server first kill of Kel'Thuzad is not big and it's not clever, and it is most certainly not funny.

Sometimes things are posted in old threads exactly because someone has used the search function, that's usually fine, but if the information is no longer relevant (i.e. talents or other elements of the game have changed making the thread redundant) then we will still lock it, just to prevent any confusion.
"That's odd. It's like something out of that twilighty show about that zone."
