Suggestion Making - 101

So you want to make a suggestion? Allow me to suggest the following:

a) Read the Forum: And by read, please, go forward a couple pages. Chances are that the idea you're about to post has already been posted (Or maybe a similar idea). Making new posts creates undue clutter, pushes other posts down, and it actually lends more weight to the idea if it is all concentrated on a single post. Also, your idea might be overlooked if there are too many posts requesting the very same thing.

b) Be Respectful: It is hard to please everyone, and most people are bound to disagree on some point or the other. But it is hardly anyone's fault that you don't like something, or feel strongly about an issue, not even Blizzard's. Posting insulting, demeaning or disrespectful messages will only be cause for contempt, not only from Blizzard, but from other posters, and will, most certainly, get your post locked or deleted. Just consider how would you feel if, while doing your job, people kept insulting you because they don't agree with your choices. It isn't nice.

c) Be Reasonable: There are plenty of great ideas out there, and we are all bound to come up with some, but keep in mind the following:

·Blizzard is not All-Powerful: Suggesting fixes to bugs and glitches will get a quicker response than suggesting game-encompassing changes with complex mechanics that have to be tested, and all-new content to be developed. Always consider the amount of time and effort required of your suggestion, and, if possible, start small. It is probably better to suggest small improvements, and then add follow-up upgrades that lead to your final idea, rather than drop a daunting task on the table and hope for Blizzard to figure it out.

·This is World of Warcraft: Meaning, that even though your idea is awesome, you have to consider if applying said idea will actually yield a different game. WoW cannot and will not have everything, ever, we must accept that certain ideas will never be implemented, because they work against the direction of the game.
A good idea would be to read up a little on Warcraft's lore, to get the feeling of the universe and know if your idea fits inside it. Playing the Wacraft 3 campaigns won't hurt either. As for game mechanics, read around these forums, there is much to learn both from Blizzard and the community.

d) Be Mindful of Others: Always think "Will this suggestion benefit the largest number of people?". Egocentrism is hardly adequate in a Massively Multiplayer game. Always think of the repercussion your idea would have on other players, and be aware that, try as you might, you will hardly have the insight to understand the needs of all the players out there.

e) Don't Get Worked Up: It's Blizzard's game, so they have the right to ignore ideas they don't think will work. Also, other posters might disagree. Getting angry and starting a flame war doesn't help. Mindlessly bumping your thread, or linking to it in every other thread doesn't help either. Don't do to others what you wouldn't like done to you.

Extra Credit: Document Your Suggestions: If there is something that really sells an idea, is proving that it works. Pointing at other media who has your idea running, or a similar idea, will make it easier to understand, and more importantly, will show, to both you and others, if the idea actually works. World of Warcraft has been with us for a couple years, MMORPGs for more than a decade, Videogames in general for far longer, Movies, or Books, have been with us for centuries. There are plenty of sources out there to look up to for inspiration, and for their example.

There, my little attempt at helping people who want to help. Mostly, it's just about common sense and basic net etiquette. We just want to have fun, so try and have fun without spoiling other people's fun.

Edit: Added a paragraph to section c.2, and added the Extra Credit.
