I'm one of those 2year+ players who (used to) spend 15hours/day 7 days a week in this game. Been on top of raiding and pvping with several different characters. A while ago I chose to stop raid and pvp and now I play 2-3 days/week, with a more healthy 1-5 hour each session.
This latest patch really screwed me over, massively.
I'm a 40/0/21 spelldamage paladin that used to love this class even tho the obvious flaws (1 magic school, hell even a felpup would take me 20sec+ to melee down while he kept me perma-silenced, just one of many examples).
With this latest patch I was looking forward to do the new "solo and small group content", as that is exactly what I play for nowadays when I don't raid and pvp heavily. New questlines? Hell yah! New items to farm for, solo, just log 1-5 hours and grind a bit and log out when it suits me and not be locked up with groups? Hell yah!
But now, my gear and spec is totally screwed over and useless. Last 2 days I been doing the Netherdrake quests, and killed some Ogres for the skylords, and frankly - the Illumination nerf is a massive setback for me. I hardly every used SotCrusader as I lived and breathed with mana. Considering mana efficiency I usually pulled 3-5 mobs on me, used rank 1 concecrate, judged Wisdom on my main target and judged/kept SoR on my main target. When the group was dead I would use Divine Favor and a Holy Light to max up my hp and just move on. I killed fairly slow but I had zero downtime, which is what I want from a class and one reason I play paladins.
Now while farming the ore in the mine, I keep going out of mana after 3-4 mobs. If I pull a group of 3-5 I can't use holy shock as that'll deplete my mana pool too fast. And I can't self-heal after the fight as that will deplete my mana pool to fast, I have to bandage. I am forced to fight mobs 1 vs 1, and only judge SoR and not use any other attack spells, to minimize the damage I take (as I can't afford to heal). Eventually on every 10-15th mobs I have to judge wisdom and keep seal of wisdom up to replenish mana! Or I have to buy drinks or get a mage to supply me with mana pots, just to do my basic damage (I'm not even spending alot, then I would use SotC and Shock, which I don't).
Seriously Blizzard, if I wanted to bandage to self-heal and don't have a heal ability, I would go with a prot warrior or a protection paladin (and pretend I couldn't self heal).
As it is now my soloing is totally screwed over, this class used to be the casual players best friend as it was viable in many roles in PuG instancing/heroics and PvP, as well as had a nice softcore approach to solo grinding. Now this class is worse than the holy priest which I gave up to play this holy paladin (as it would give me more survivability but also more potential to solo grind, which my priest was useless for). Now the priest does that better with the holy dmg-builds and the Illumination nerf totally killed this spec.
I realise priests felt threatened by paladins, but by all means, that was stupid already from the start. This class only have FoL and HL to heal with. Holy Shock is really expensive and Holy Light doesn't even heal a fraction of a Renew. We also lack AoE-heals which makes 5mans with AoE-damage a pain. Hell even a simple fight like the warlock/3rd boss in Shadow Laby does AoE-rain after teleport and as paladin I have to ask my PuG's to move fast ouf of the fire as I can't heal them until late. First I heal tank, then me, then the other 3, so it'll be a hell of a delay before I even can touch them with heals.
The only thing that the Illumination-nerf tells us is about the stupidity and ignorance from players who fail to think in several dimensions. This nerf doesn't hit us much in intancing/raiding as we'll still be bad at AoE-instant-healing, we'll still be good at spamming FoL. This nerf hits in soloing. And this nerf was also never called for as priests always was alot better healers than we ever were, even pre-prayer of mending. Yes, they had Renew, Shield (saves from MS) and a shorttime cast AoE-heal. We were never a threat to priests.
Illumination must come back to 100%, at least 90%+, as soon as possible, before you totally kills this class. It was bad before and now it's horrible. What the hell were you thinking? |
