by Thundgot | 24/07/2007 07:47:14![]() The World of Warcraft Public Test Realms (PTRs) are used to test upcoming content patches in a public environment before they are released to live realms. The Blizzard Quality Assurance team gathers information from the public test through the game, as well as through feedback from this forum. What is a Test Realm? A Test Realm is a realm used to test the patches before they're released to public realms. How many Test Realms are there? There are two PTRs -- 1 PvP and 1 Normal. Are Test Realms always available to play on? No, Test Realms are not always available. How often are the Test Realms available? The Test Realms become available to players a week or two before every content patch. Who can play on the Test Realm? Players who create an active World of Warcraft account before the Test Realms go live can play on the Test Realms. How do I know if a Test Realm is available? A news item will be posted on www.wow-europe.com letting players know when the public Test Realms become available. Once the Test Realms are up, how do I play on them? Please follow the instructions located at http://www.wow-europe.com/ptr/ to download the files necessary to log in to the Test Realm. You will copy a character to the PTR to play with it.. How many times may I copy my characters to the Test Realms? Players are allowed to "copy" a maximum of 2 times to the Test Realms. Deleting a character from the PTRs will not allow you to perform an additional character copy. Is my character on the Test Realms permanent? No. Characters and all associated items can be deleted during testing, and all characters will be wiped on completion of the testing phase. Can I create a new character on the Test Realms? Yes. But we encourage you to copy one of your own characters to the Test Realm, so you can experience the new content going in next patch. Is the version of the game on the Test Realms the same as the one that is currently running on the public realms? No. The Test Realm is running a version of the game that contains all of the content going in next patch. Where can I find out information on what I am testing? To find out what is on the Test Realm, click here and read the Test Realm patch notes. |
by Thundgot | 24/07/2007 07:47:58![]() In order to access the test realms, here is how you should do. 1. Go to http://www.wow-europe.com/ptr/character-copy.html and copy your character to the PTR realm. If you do not have one or do not feel to copy a character, you still can create one or several new ones. 2. From the downloads section, download the current patch downloader file to your hard disk. 3. Move or copy the downloaded file into your World of Warcraft folder and delete any previous WoWtest folder. 4. Execute the file and patiently wait for the download to complete. 5. If the patching process does not start automatically, execute the patch file manually and wait patiently for the patching process to complete. 6. Close your Launcher 7. Execute the file wow.exe located in your WoWtest folder and login 8. Select the test realm to use and start testing the game. |
by Tootamia | 24/07/2007 08:05:28![]() PTR Q and A Below is a short list of the additional commonly asked questions regarding the Public Test Realms (PTR). Q. Do the Public Test Realms have GMs? A. No. However, there are many people monitoring the realms and this forum. The EULA that applies to the normal realms also applies to the PTRs. This means that players using third-party programs (such as speed hacks) or behaving inappropriately will have their accounts banned, permanently. Q. Why does it tell me I'm running the wrong version when I try to launch the WoWTest.exe? A. This usually means you already have a WoWTest folder in your World of Warcraft directory and need to delete it before running the patch. Q. I’ve used up my two character copies, what does it mean when it says I need to wait until the next testing phase to copy two more characters? A. The term, "Testing Phase" refers to each content patch that is available for public testing. For example: patch 9, 10, 11, etc. Deleting your character from the PTRs will not allow you to make another character copy. Q. Why does it say my password is wrong when I try to login? A. If you've changed the password on your account within the last 3 weeks, you won't be able to log onto the Public Test Realms. You can try to use your old password, but there's no guarantee that it will work. Q. Can I have pre-mades? A. There is no intention of using pre-made characters on the test realms at this time. If pre-made characters are deemed necessary for testing an announcement will be made in this forum. Q. When will this patch go live? A. When it’s ready. Regarding bug reports: The more information you can provide to us about the bug you are experiencing, the more likely it is to get addressed by us and subsequently, the developers. This includes but is no limited to: a full description of what happened, steps for reproduction if possible, screenshots, crash logs, etc. I can not stress how useful screenshots can be for helping us reproduce a bug. When posting a crash report please cut and paste the entire crash log, and give as complete a description of what happened leading up to the crash as possible. Also, feel free to post on other players bug reports if you have similar reports to file or simply more information on that particular issue that was not provided by the original poster. If a reported issue is already known, one of the moderators may lock the thread at their discretion. |
