Hey
First of all this might not be appropriate thread for OT. But still, maybe someone can help.
Basically I have a HP laptop with Intel Core 2 Duo T7200 2.0 GHz processor, 1GB Ram, ATI Mobility Radeon X1600 256MB.
The problem is that CPU's core is very hot. When I turn on computer it starts at ~50°C and it ends up at around 64-66°C - that's with absolutely no program running. If I browse on internet and have a torrent downloading in the background, or watching a movie the temperature goes up to 72-80°C.
If I play WoW it goes all the way up to 100°C almost instantly. I use RMCPU and it throttles CPU's clock to half the speed so temperature falls to about 85-90°C and then it rises again to 100°C and so on...
Now according to info from Intel website max. Cover Temp is 100°C.
So it's obvious that CPU is way too hot.
Oh and I am playing WoW on all settings on lowest, even visibility. And at 1280x800 resolution. And even with these settings CPU gets to 100°C.
Fan is working all the time, at around 80°C it goes on full speed. And the room in which I have laptop is not hot or anything.
I tried cleaning fan and keyboard (where the air gets in). And it made no difference.. However I do recall that few months ago air was coming out of laptop at pretty high speed and it was quite hot. Now the air is coming out at low speed and it's not even that hot. So I am suspecting that there is dust inside that is preventing air flow.
Is it save to completely remove fan and CPU heatsink from laptop - if I am careful? Anyone did this at home? Any ideas or additional reasons why CPU could be so hot? |
