Known Issues in Patch 3.0.2
by Gelmkar | 15/10/2008 14:32:42![]() 0. Introduction Patch 3.0.2 is a two step patch, updating to 3.0.1 and then adding 3.0.2 content. It requires at least 6.5 GB of free space in order to make the file system changes necessary in preparation for the new expansion. If installing from a Burning Crusade client the patch is approximately 1.6GB, from Classic World of Warcraft it is 3.2GB. It is split into 8 files in the Updates folder as follows: \Updates\ | +-\WoW-2.4.3-to-3.0.1-TBC-EU-Update\ | +--Installer Tome.MPQ | +--Installer Tome 2.MPQ | +--Installer Tome 3.MPQ | +--Updater.exe <---THIS LAUNCHES THE 1ST PATCH | +\WoW-3.0.1-to-3.0.2-Update\ +--wow-partial-1.MPQ +--wow-partial-2.MPQ +--wow-final.MPQ +--Updater.exe<---THIS LAUNCHES THE 2ND PATCH If you are copying the patch from another location you must make sure to copy all of these files and make sure that none are .part files as these are incomplete downloads. Running the game will check for any incomplete downloads and download the remainder of the files if necessary. As this patch contains major updates to the game many User Interface Addons will no longer work and could cause disconnections, crashes or other issues. We would recommend that you remove all addons and start fresh with new up to date downloads by deleting the WTF, Cache and Interface folders in the World of Warcraft directory when the game is closed. When downloading new addons, please make sure to only download from reputable websites and never run a program to install your addons. If you have any doubts about the safety of your information and the genuineness of a particular addon we would recommend asking other players on the Interface Customization forum before downloading anything: http://forums.wow-europe.com/board.html?forumId=11098 Add-on websites and downloads are popular targets for the creators of keyloggers and other software that can threaten the security of your account. We have more information on account security in our sticky here: Account Security You should make absolutely sure that no old addons are inside the Interface folder and no old Cache files are inside the Cache folder before moving onto other troubleshooting steps as these can cause many varied issues. In the following posts we will collect and list current known issues and solutions for downloading or applying the patch and for the game after the patch has been installed. There is also a list of in-game known issues on the In Game Support Forum here: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=6305260530&sid=1 Index: 0. Introduction 1. As a result, the game will drive systems harder and you may see lower frames per second than before. The first thing to bear in mind is that the scales for many graphical options in the game have been adjusted so that a setting that looks the same as it was before the patch, may actually be significantly higher in real terms leading to a better ingame graphical experience, but a lower frame rate too. In addition, the system requirements have been updated to take account of operating systems improvements: * Windows Vista Service Pack 1 is now a requirement. * Windows XP Service Pack 3 is now a requirement. * Windows 2000 is now no longer a supported Operating System. This means that if technical issues arise while playing the game under Windows 2000 or without these Service Packs, our technical support department may not be able to resolve them. We will still do our best to provide troubleshooting advice, but if our suggestions do not work, we will be unable to provide further assistance. You can read the fully updated System Requirements here: http://www.wow-europe.com/en/requirements/technical.html [ Post edited by Gelmkar ] |

Downloading The Patch If the Blizzard Downloader appears to stop or slow down towards the end when downloading the patch, this is normal because the first part of the downloader will check the data that has previously been downloaded through the Background Downloader. If you have the maximum data already downloaded it will appear to stop at 97% at which point it must download the last 50mb of patch. Invalid torrent error This error message occurs when the patch files are not located in the same place, either from the background downloader or from a mirror, we need to ensure that all patch files are located together in the structure shown in the original post in this thread. To fix this in Windows Vista: Navigate to C:\Users\Public\Public Documents\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft Copy the WoW-2.4.3-to-3.0.2-enGB-Win-Final-downloader or WoW-3.0.1-to-3.0.2-enGB-Win-Update-downloader if present and the full Updates folder to your World of Warcraft folder (to find this you can right click on the icon and click Open File Location) If you get an error message that prevents this, then go back to the Public folder above and delete the Updates folder. These files may also be located in a folder called C:\Users\Shared\Shared Documents\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft Next: Right click on the Launcher file and choose Properties, Select the Compatibility tab and tick the "Run this program as administrator" option. Right click on the Wow file and repeat the above steps to also set this as Admin. Finally, Right click on the WoW-2.4.3-to-3.0.2-enGB-Win-Final-downloader file that you copied and choose to run this as Administrator. It should then download and apply the patch correctly. Data for the Next Patch Is Not Available message If you receive this error message, navigate to your World of Warcraft game directory and double click on the Wow file to launch the game. On the login screen, make sure that Show Launcher is ticked, then try to login to the game, then exit the game and double click on the Launcher file in the World of Warcraft game directory, this should then download either a tools update or the patch. If you encounter further problems downloading the patch, try the steps in our general patching sticky here: http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=35983681&sid=1 You can also download the patches from alternate mirror sites, some of which are available in this sticky: 3.0.2 Patch Mirrors thread The tracker is not responding This message will appear after the downloader has checked the pre-patch content that was previously downloaded by the background downloader. This error message indicates that the new Patch Downloader is not able to connect to our servers. This is normally due to a Firewall or Anti-Virus program or some other Internet Security Software blocking the patch downloader. It is important to make sure that the new WoW-2.4.3-to-3.0.2-enGB-Win-Final-downloader and WoW-3.0.1-to-3.0.2-enGB-Win-Update-downloader files are not blocked by such a program. In addition, some players have found that old firewalls that were thought to be uninstalled still have a presence on the system that can block the downloader. Norton and McAfee have removal tool programs which can be used to make completely sure that there are no traces of old copies of their software that could be interfering with the Blizzard Downloader. If you have had these installed previously, we would recommend that you try these tools: Norton: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162 039 McAfee: http://service.mcafee.com/FAQDocument.aspx?id=107083&lc=1033 [ Post edited by Naelend ] |
by Gelmkar | 16/10/2008 11:51:05![]() 3. Applying the Patch The file "wow.exe" cannot be found This error, occurs when the patching process cannot locate the World of Warcraft game executable or when it does not have permission to To resolve it, first navigate to your World of Warcraft folder (to find this you can right click on the icon and click Open File Location). In there, look for the file Wow with a W icon. (If running Windows Vista, Right click on the Wow file and choose properties, then select the Compatibility tab and choose Run as Administrator.) Then double click on it to launch the game. Try to login and you should receive the message that a patch has been downloaded and you must restart. If you click that the patch should apply. If you get the message “Failed to Apply Patch” instead, then follow the steps below. Failed to Apply Patch This error can normally be resolved by running the Updater file manually. -Navigate to your World of Warcraft folder and then into the folder called Updates. -Then, for the first patch, go into WoW-2.4.3-to-3.0.1-TBC-EU-Update and double click on the file called Updater. -The second is also called Updater, located in WoW-3.0.1-to-3.0.2-Update. After running these you should be fully patched. The file "<SOMETHING>" could not be renamed to "<SOMETHING>". (ConflictManager::ResolveConflicts/3) or could not be deleted. (ConflictManager::UncreateObjects) or similar In order to resolve this error please restart the computer then: - Right click your World of Warcraft icon and choose Properties - Then click the button Find Target or Open File Location - Open the Updates folder then, for the first patch, go into WoW-2.4.3-to-3.0.1-TBC-EU-Update and double click on the file called Updater. (Under Windows Vista, right click on the file and choose Run as Administrator) - The second is also called Updater, located in the folder called WoW-3.0.1-to-3.0.2-Update. After running these you should be fully patched. If you continue to get the error message please ensure that you have disabled any security software such as the Spybot Search and Destroy TeaTimer module or Google Desktop. Should you have any difficulty's removing the Google Desktop tool, please refer to the following weblink: http://desktop.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=12354 You can also try the above steps in Safe mode, the following support article details how to boot into safemode: http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=19393 Waiting for files to close Check if you have the process Launcher.exe or Wow.exe running in Task Manager and end it, then the patch should start. You can also reboot the computer and run the patch manually by clicking on WoW-2.4.3-to-3.0.2-enGB-Win-Final-downloader from the game directory. Errors applying the patch If you encounter one of the following errors during patching, this is usually due to some corrupt, or extra patch files in your World of Warcraft directory. Check for any files called Patch-2.mpq or Patch-X.mpq where X could be a number of letter in the following directories in your World of Warcraft installation folder: Data Data\enGB\ Data\xxXX\ for any other language packs you may have installed.
If you continue to get these errors during patching then your game client may be seriously damaged, if your game is still at patch 2.4.3 you may be able to resolve the problem by reverting the game back to an earlier version as explained in our FAQ article here: http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=19671#revert Af ter doing this you will need to reapply some patches, but if you still receive the same error, it will be necessary to completely un-install and reinstall the game. Connection Issues after patching Unable to Connect (Norton Internet Security users) For those using this firewall and experiencing some issues trying to connect to the game, please follow the instructions on our FAQ here: http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=21477 Unable to connect after patching the game? Please visit our FAQ article here: http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=19459 My characters are naked, or are called Unknown Entity Please Visit our FAQ article here: http://eu.blizzard.com/support/article.xml?articleId=19465 When connecting to the game I am getting disconnected straight away In a majority of cases we have discovered, that this can be caused when out-of-date add-ons are installed and are running. 3.0.2 introduced vast changes to the game and a large majority of add-ons will no longer work correctly . Locate your World of Warcraft folder and delete the WTF, Cache and Interface folders completely, make sure you remove this folders when the game is closed down. Graphical Issues in 3.0.2 Black textures There is a known issue with some Nvidia Geforce and ATI Radeon graphics cards which causes certain textures in the game to appear black and could lead to crashes. One work around to resolve this is to navigate to your World of Warcraft directory and open the Config.wtf file in the WTF folder with Wordpad. Add this line to the bottom: SET FixedFunction “1” If after restarting the game the textures still appear black, check with Nvidia or ATI for updated drivers for your card: ATI: http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html NVIDIA: http://www.nvidia.com/Download/index.aspx Our development team are also actively working on this issue and hope to have a full solution implemented in a future patch. Sliding Scale Many of the sliders in the in game video options have had their scales increased, as a result settings that may look similar will in fact be higher and therefore will create a greater strain on performance. On the plus side, the game will look prettier. However, if you feel your performance has dropped, you should first try reducing these ingame settings as you may find your performance increases noticeably without much loss of image quality. Dynamic Shadows & Flickering Graphics Patch 3.0.2 introduces dynamic shadow effects to World of Warcraft for the first time. These add a great deal to the immersion of the environment, but can cause a significant drop in performance. On some systems players have experienced flickering graphics due to these. You can adjust these in game using the Shadows Quality slider in Video Options > Effects. To disable the effect completely you can also add this line to the Config.wtf file in your WTF folder in the World of Warcraft game directory: SET FixedFunction “1” Low FPS or High CPU load when alt-tabbed. By default World of Warcraft now has it’s FPS capped at 30 when running in the background or alt-tabbed. If you wish to change this value you can use this command in game: /console maxfpsbk X If X = 0, it will remove the cap and will run at full speed. If X is a number, it'll lower it to that amount when the game is in the background. We have had reports from players on some computer systems that World of Warcraft significantly increases its load on the computer when alt-tabbed. Setting X as 0 in the above command should also resolve that. [ Post edited by Gelmkar ] |

by Gelmkar | 16/10/2008 18:16:50![]() 7. European Language Pack Compatibility With patch 3.0.2 the European language packs for World of Warcraft have been updated. If you had a previous language pack installed and fully patched to 2.4.3 before installing this patch, then it should update automatically when you patch, however, if your language pack was not fully up to date you may encounter errors during patching. The simplest way to resolve this is to remove any old language packs by deleting the language folder from the Data folder in the World of Warcraft game directory and running the patch again. If you wish to install Language packs after installing patch 3.0.2 please make sure that you download them from our website here: https://www.wow-europe.com/account/download.html If you attempt to install an old language pack on a 3.0.2 client you could break the installation requiring a full reinstall of the game. |
