This guide will include:
  • How to prepare for an instance run

  • Brief role for every class in an instance

  • How to maximise profit from an instance run

  • In-depth guide to roles in an instance

    How
to prepare for an instance run:

Depending on the instance, you will spend about 2 hours in an instance on average (depending on the skill of the group). Keep this in mind if you are going to log off in one hour because you need to go and see your friends, because people will be annoyed if you decide to leave half way through which could affect your reputation amongst other players.
The instance will always be hard on your healer. Take this into account when preparing for the instance. Most of the time, the healer will always heal the tank back to full health so that the healer is comfortable with sitting down to drink. To save your healer time and mana, bring some food with you (either buy it or ask a mage) and eat it after every fight to save you some time.
Healers: If you don't have a mage in your group, then prepare by going to a vendor and buy some water, or ask a mage for some. I know in my other guide I said that you shouldn't buy items, but if it means you can't get your mana back faster enough and having to wait, you will waste more time and lose out on the bigger money.
Warlocks: Be sure to bring enough Soulshards for the instance.
Also, be sure to repair all your gear before you enter the instance.

As a group leader, in the instance you can make it very easy on your party. Blizzard have put a "marking" tool into the game. You can put small symbols on top of the target(s) to help identify which is which. For example, skull = kill... moon = sheep. Make sure you tell you group what they mean, or they will be clueless.

    Clas
s specific roles in an instance (Alphabetically):

    Druid:
As a hybrid class (meaning you can do different roles depending on the situation), you can do three different things in a group. Heal, dps (do damage), or tank.
    Hunter:
In groups, you will always be doing damage. Familiarise yourself with your pet and keep it on passive. When you see someone wearing cloth who is in trouble, send in your pet to take the agro away from the cloth wearer so the cloth wearer doesn't die. Most of the time, the cloth wearer will be the priest!
    Mage:
In groups, you will be doing damage. Sometimes, you will need to sheep (polymorph) adds to limit the amount of monsters you need to kill at once. Before entering the instance, prepare some water for your healer and some food for the others (Don't forgot to make water for yourself :) ).
    Paladin
You are another hybrid class, and you are a great asset to any group. Your buffs are some of the greatest in the game, and your healing can be impressive too. In a group without a healer, you will often be that healer. Take time to familiarise yourself with the different buffs and auras, which could easily be the difference between life and death.
    Priest:
The best healers in the game. Remember to check which of your healing spells can best heal in groups, which don't cost too much mana and heal well. It also helps to make a new spellbar for healing spells.
    Rogue:
You also deal damage. Attack the monster that the warrior is tanking, and monsters will die hard and fast. Be ready to use sap to reduce the amount of mobs that need to be killed. TIP: Sap the healers first.
Shaman: You are another hybrid class. You can deal damage and heal. Familiarise yourself with your different totems, and use the totems which best help the situation and the group. TIP: Use Windfury to increase dps of your melee party members, and Mana Tide Totems to help those casters/healers.
    Warlock:
You are another damage dealer. You can summon an imp to help increase the groups health. You can also create Healthstones to give to party members for them to use in emergencies.
Familiarise yourself with your curses to help the group. For example, Curse of Tongues on those monsters who heal or cast spells.
Warriors: The meatshields of the group. Your purpose in groups is to tank the mobs so that no one else does. This makes it easier for other party members to survive.

How to maximise profit from an instance run

Before you go to an instance, sell all the items you don't need, and put the items you do need but not for the instance in the bank.
To maximise profit from an instance, try to go to the instance with as many bag slots empty as possible. Make sure, however, that you bring food and water and any bandages you might need. Also bring your skinning knife/ mining pic. Enchanters, should also leave their dusts and essences in their banks.
When the group is not fighting and it is safe to mine/ loot a herb, then do so. Before doing it, ask if anyone else is a miner/herbalist so that you don't cause arguments.
