How to - Guild webpage! Easy Guide! (PHP)
by Aylah | 25/02/2007 04:33:36![]() Since this post is a guide and a help (Questions and feedback allowed) I just want to inform you all that 'Aylah' the post creator, and supporter for this post is 'Tinia' the problem was that I migrated. I also really appriciate suggestions and other great choices of hosters or web-servers which could be used in this post! So come with it, so I can make this post even more helpful which will probably help players and members of the World of Warcraft Europe Community even more. Thanks to you all! Step 1. Finding a hoster and signing up!
http://www.awardspace.com http://www.prohosts.org http://www.webmaster-networks.com NEW! (Remarkable good!) NEW! Or search Google for other PHP, MySQL free hosts without ads. "Search word: Free MySQL, PHP Host no ads" Register at these pages. When you've done so, please check your mailbox (included junkmail.) You will receive: FTP FTP Account Name: Usually the same as your user name you used when signed up! FTP Password: Usually the same as your password you used when signed up! MySQL MySQL Hostname: Says in email, standard: mysql5.<hosturl>.com/.net/.org MySQL Password: Usually the same as your account password and FTP password. MySQL Account name: Usually the same as your account name and FTP account. MySQL Database: (You must create this database through your Control Panel. A link to the control panel is located in the mail you get. Otherwhise it's usually http://cpanel.<yourhost.com/.org/.net Great free hosters, fast and free! Step 2. Downloading the FTP Client and connect to your free host server! You have now signed up an account at a "web-server". To upload the files you download from http://www.phpbb.com (Forum core files) or http://www.eqdkp.com (DKP Core site files) you need an FTP client! You may also use Windows FTP, easy drag and drop between folders, but I should suggest a FTP client. A very smart and easy FTP client to use is SmartFTP! You may download this software from http://smartftp.com Download the FTP Client (SmartFTP or any other FTP client) and install it. When your FTP Client is installed, launch it and open a "New Connection" or just leave the main browser open where you can see a login bar. When you've opened "New Connection" or ready to type in your login name and password somewhere else, fill in this: Account/username: Your FTP Account name. Usually the same as your account name. (Check your e-mail!) Password: Your FTP password. Usually the same as your account password (Check your e-mail) Hostname/URL/IP: The hosters URL/IP/Hostname. This says in the e-mail and it's normally something like this: ftp.<hoster>.com/.net/.org, but not always, sometimes it's only a regular site address too! (Check your e-mail) Press connect or the green arrow (as in SmartFTP). You are now successfully logged on your FTP account! Making a MySQL Database! Before continuing you need to create an MySQL database at your hoster via your account. Log in at the hosters website via the control panel (usually cpanel.<hostname>.com/.net/.org When you have logged on the control panel find the "MySQL" button or "Manage Databases" or something like that. There should be a field where it says: Create Database. Enter your database name and click on the "Create database" button. When your database is created you will see the name of your database displayed on the site. Usually something around: <yourdatabasename>_db or mysql_<yourdatabasename>_db. You have now created a database! Congratulations! This database name is needed later on, when you are going to install e.g; Phpbb forum / EQDKP / Guild Roster / zDKP / Phpbb Plus etc. If you forget it, you can just log on the control panel on the hosters site and get it! Uploading your files to the webserver. Now you need something to upload. Lets say you are going to make a Phpbb forum. Go to http://www.phpbb.com/downloads.php and download the core pack. When you have done this, connect to your FTP account (Scroll up if you don't remember how to do it.) When you have done so, drag the un-packed Phpbb core files.zip/.rar etc. with for instance WinRAR (http://www.rarlabs.com for a Free trial version.) The un-packed folder named Phpbb.<version id.> is the folder which contains the files you need to upload. Access the un-packed Phpbb folder. Now you will get to a lot of folders and files. folders: admin, install, images + a lot of .tpl files and .index etc. Drag ALL those folders and files into your FTP window, and the FTP upload process will start automatically! (This may take several of minutes.) When this is done and your log says "Transfer done!" or whatever, exit your FTP client. You can now log off your FTP account. When this is done, go to your domain name; usually www.<youraccountname>.<hoster>.com/:net/.org. You will now see a install window. Enter all the req. info and click Install! Please reply if any issues falls in your way, and I will hurry in with a helping hand. Would also been great if other players who got a little knowledge could help fellow player mates as well. Thanks, and good luck! [ Post edited by Aylah ] |
