Homosexuality is a mental disorder

The best approach is to use functionalist methodology, which very basically is: categorizing a phenomenon/object through its function in a system. The study of insanity is then the study of dysfunctional social and psychological behaviour, i.e. phenomena and objects that are harmful to a system, which in this case means harmful to society and individual. An example of this would be what the DSM-IV handbook for mental illneses call "Antisocial Personality Disorder"(APD), otherwise known as psychopathy. Why is APD a mental illness? Following our functionalist approach, the issue with APD is that a subject suffering from it is unable to function in society, the subject is self-centered and is unable to empathize with other humans and emotionally understand norms(1). This in many cases leads to violent crime or other activity that promotes the individual at the cost of society, such as lieing, stealing, general immorality. This means that society typically suffers from the actions of an individual who suffers from APD, which then due to its psychological nature can be called a mental disorder. Homosexuality is harmful to society and the individual in the sense that the subject suffering from it is unable to, or at least in general does not, reproduce. Low Reproduction rates is a serious social issue in many western countries, such as Italy, Japan, Scandinavia, and old Soviet Eastern european nations (2). Since physical reproduction is a vital function in the reproduction of society as a system, and the genes of the individual as a system, homosexuality is dysfunctional. Homosexuality is not genetical. This can be observed via the only really well evidenced empiric cause of homosexuality, which is having older brothers. The existence of older brothers increases the chance of homosexuality significantly. Furthermore, the existence of homosexual cultures in our genetically speaking not too distant history also signifies this (Archaic and Classic Athens). Neurohormonal theory doesn't hold water because there are no anthroprometric differences between straights and gays. So homosexuality is dysfunctional, and it is a social/psychological phenomenon. The inevitable conclusion is that homosexuality is a mental disorder. 1. An interpretation based on the DSM-IV diagnostic criteria for APD. 2. The birth rate needed to uphold population balance is circa 2,1.
