Guild Starblade is Moving away...
by Tewesq | 05/07/2007 07:14:03![]() Greetings! For two and a half years Starblade has been a reliable and honorable force among the residents of Aggramar. We have been big, strong, small, dedicated, respected, enjoyed, and more... and always there since the very first days of the World of Warcraft being online. We started in mid Feb. 2005 just a day after the server went live to the public. We currently have about 90 players in the guild, that's 165 characters. Players from Starblade are generally well sought after, well rounded and trained people who know how to play well, mature and kind people. And we want people to have been proud to have been in Starblade. One of our most memorable events was a year and a half ago when Sepsis and Tewesq had a in-game marriage that dozens attended. It was a role play event on a non-role playing server and went over excellently. People still talk about it to me and I have seen it mentioned now and then on the forums. I proposed to Sepsis's player RL while in the game at a massive guild meeting last year (actually, I had done it already RL in person to her a short bit before that, but I thought it would be a nice surprise to make a public presentation of it among our frinds here in Aggramar). Sepsis, and I have decided that the realm has become stale, the people we know and love have chosen other paths over time, the guild is casual so there's not a lot actually keeping them with Starblade when they want to get higher end gear. Every 6 months or so we are almost there, just on the verge of being a casual raiding guild, then, just at the last moment a key player leaves. Having tasted the raiding and wanting more they want to go faster than a fledgling raid group, and it creates a 'raiders exodus' and we are set back again. We never quite seem to break that final barrier. The game has become, in our eyes, everyone for themselves. Sure, there is raiding in raid guilds but for the casual guilds the players have become apathetic, guild hopping has become rampant, the sense of 'togetherness' that Starblade once had was lost and has fragmented. It has happened before for starblade and we rebult it. It happened again, and we rebuilt it again. It happened again, and again, we rebult it... we just can't seem to reach the goals and ideals we have wished for. We decided to truely become what we want Starblade to be will require a change of concept, a new beginning. This isn't really possible reasonably on Aggramar, it's old, the players are jaded, there is too much history (both good and bad) with people on the server and the server itself just doesn't lend to concept we are seeking for. So, we decided to create Starblade anew on a Role Playing server. The idea is that people who are going to spend hours playing their character as if it was a interactive part of the game and the other characters, something that has a life of it's own in relating to those around them and the world around them, this will by the fact of immersion in the play give players that needed sense of guild loyalty and dedication. I want to see the game played WITH, not in. Not just having the canned game events but MAKE the game become more than just go to predesigned event to the next predesigned event. With the Role Playing aspect added there is a new flavor to the game, a new style is required, and a new way of interating with others, a new depth to the game. We wouldn't be able to do that on Aggramar. Not effectively. so Starblade is reborn on "The Sha'tar". We will still be Horde, but the guild will be more specific in who will join because we will have to make sure the players know what they are getting into. we will interview each player in a Role Playing environment to quaify them. The guild chat itself will be role play (we will have a OOC (out of character) chat channel). Since the guild is starting new, with new characters and new people in the guild with a known concept and my two and half years of experience as guild leader for Starblade we believe we have the chance to become the guild and the game we think World of Warcraft should be. There are a few players who will be start with us over there from Starblade here. Since The Sha'tar is a more-or-less new server they don't allow character transfers yet (that will start after July 16th), the haven't even opened the gates of AQ yet. So we have made Starblade: The New Beginning with new characters that we are currently building a game story around. Since it does cost 20 euros (15£) to transfer a character to another server we don't really expect many to transfer over, we understand that, and to be honest we know that most players are just not here for Role Playing. They are just here to play the game as the game is fed to them, and that's fine. But, it doesn't create a the stable and loyal and dedicated guild and players we have striven for. Around August we are looking at transferring Tewesq and Sepsis to The Sha'tar. I will keep a couple characters in Aggramar, but I no longer feel Aggramar is providing the game I want to play. Those those real friends I have had in Aggramar, thank you for being there to make this game a better place. To the rest of you here, you are all part of a long and wonderful journey we have shared. Directly or indirectly you are the flavor of the game that makes it worth going back to. I hope you all find the rewards you seek, both in your game and in real life. May your quests be fulfilled along with your hopes and desires. Fox Purtill - Aka: Tewesq/Destry/Ashur/Whest and the many others I have played and removed. http://starblade.zapto.org |
by Salthem | 11/07/2007 16:48:04![]() What Tewesq of The Sha'tar did was inappropriate and childish, but your comments, Tewesq of Aggramar, are way out of line. I hope that you can realise that. Nonetheless I do hope Tewesq of The Sha'tar stands by his word and does not cause you undue distress in your move. |
