Gruul's lair. Spreading before ground slam?
by Pantherios | 19/02/2007 12:04:53![]() Normally i do not discuss these things outside the guild, but because so many ppl seem to have different opinions about the gruul fight i am posting some stuff here to broaden the discussion about the mechanics used in the gruul fight. As all of you know who read the ElistJerks forumn, ground slam spells are found in thottbott's spell database being: http://www.thottbot.com/?sp=39187. This spell is used in conjunction with his grasp before stoning ppl and then adding the shatter dmg. But before ground slam is used a seemly random pulling/knocking of people in the raid occur. Now at first i thought it was random too, but after seeing some kill movies and trying some stuff out myself i went for a look in the thottbot spell database. And come accross this entry: Magnetic Pull 8-40 yd range Pull somebody towards you. Player Pull Value: 300 (30 yards) http://www.thottbot.com/?sp=31705 This spell could account for the flying of ppl in the room, but the trigger for this spell would have to be: http://www.thottbot.com/?sp=29979 So lets see, if the last spell is used first for affecting ppl with 'magnetic pull" and everybody in a 80 yards range of gruul gets it, we would see the entire raid going air born. We could tank gruul in a corner then, but seeing how gruuls lair is not much larger then 80 yards we still would see the entire raid going airborn. So positioning of Gruul does not affect the knocking/pulling mechanism. After seeing a kill movie of gruul i saw something intressting in there. Namely the movie was a hunter POV. At the first and a the second shatter the hunter is pulled after that no pulls happen. The first time when it happens you see him flying in a certain direction. What was special about this direction is that it was in the direction of where another hunter was moving too (before the pulling/knocking happens). Second time i could not see where the other hunter was. Last night in the last attempt of the evening i tested some stuff myself after trying all sort of layouts at gruul. I payed special attention to my position with other priests. Making sure they are out of my healing range (being 40 yards). I did not get pulled knocked that time, the next time i moved a bit closer to a shadow priest in the raid. Guess what? I got pulled into his direction. I already discussed my findings with a few ppl, but they still think that the entire thing is just luck based and random. I would like to hear if other ppl have encountered the same behaviour as i tried to explain. And if you can put the raid up with all ranged based classses 40 yards from each other and keep the melee classes inside the 8 yards melee range of gruul and their class mates. If you can keep ppl from flying around in the room, you can spread out the raid better and avoid major deaths due to shatter dmg one/two shotting ppl who got knocked/pulled, So basically what i think happens: - Gruul uses massive magnetic pull before ground slam. - Players of the same class which are between 8 and 40 yards from each other have the change of pulling ppl towards them. Tacitcs from avoiding it? - Place all ranged classes 40 yards from each other. - Bunch up the rogues and other melee classes together within 8 yards. - Work out a running pattern when grasping start for melee and ranged based classes so everybody is atleast 15 yards from each other. Comments/suggestion on this would be appriciated. Thnx. [ Post edited by Pantherios ] |
